Thousands of oll- grlms from all parts of Italy and from other lands are gathering today In the little Umbrlan town of Qubblo, to wit ness the famous Drocesslon of the cerl, which the natives hold every year on May 15 In honor of their native saint and former bishop, St. Ubaldo. This quaint ceremonial dates back to the mists of antloulty and Is said to have been of heathen origin. A cero Is a tall wooden pole or mast hlch nosses through the middle Of two lantern shaped frames of wood and canvas, separated from each other and surmounted by the figure of a saint. The lower extremity of the mast fits Into' a wooden stretcher pro vided with two long shafts one at each end, so that it can be borne alone the stecn streets and ud the mountain side above the town on the stalwart backs of the young and vig orous. These ccrl are three In number, and ach Is surmounted by the Image of a separate saint the first by that of St. Ubaldo, the second by that of St George and the third by that of St. Antonio. The United States cruiser Albany Is conveying the en voy, who Is accompanied by Ambassa dor Enrique Creel, Mexico's envoy. The cruiser will reach Cotsa Rica In time to permit the envoys to attend the opening next month of the su preme court of Justice of Central Am erica In San Jose. The meeting was marked by great enthusiasm for Roosevelt and many delegates favor Indorsing him for another term, with Taft as second choice. Waco. Texas. May 16. The reor ganized or negro faction of the repub lican, party Is holding Its state and congressional convention here today, with may delegates from all over Texas In attendance. Ubaldo Is first admitted Into the mon astery, gryates three times around the court, his Image Is then carried into the church, the others then follow and the procession Is at an end.
