Miss Naomi Stengel has gone to Monmouth where she will visit for short time. The first crate o home-grown strawberries appeared 1 the market the first of this week, They were grown by James Adrian who lives near Freewater. He sold then to Bradley, Mitchell & Hadley for $10 a crate, and this company sold them to the Bialock Fruit com pany in Walla Walla. Berries will be coming In slowly from now on, and in about two weeks there will be an abundance of them. The Bank of Milton will Immediate ly be converted from its present status to the First National Bank of Milton and the new bank will be capitalized at $50,000, fully paid. No change will be made Ih the general policy and management of the bank, after Its conversion Into a national Institu tion. The directors of the concern are H. L. Frazler, president; William Talbert, William Nicholas, J. E. Davis, A. M. Elam, J. L. Frazler, N. A Davis. J. L. Elams' bank has been remoV' ed from this city. It was simply a branch of Elam's bank at Walla Walla. Strawberry day, which had been set for June 4, promises to be one of the most glorious evenfs of the year. A great many people will be here- for this occasion, and there will be peo ple here from all parts of the state, Examinations are now under way at Columbia college, and next week will be commencement week. E. C. McCook of Portland, was a recent visitor here. Dennis Groons has returned from a trip to Attalia, Wash. The people of this section would like to have seen a little more rain than has fallen here of late. Some good rains are expected before the month Is out, which will Insure good rops, although this section of the country has not yefsuffered In the least, and 11 crops are looking tip top. A few carloads of potatoes have been shipped east of late by the Shields Fruit company. Heavy shipments ' of strawberries will be made to Spokane, Seattle and Montana points this season, and in a few days time they will be on the market in abundance. Freewater News. Freewater, May 13. Walla Walla Prepared to Entertain Pythlnn.s of Wellington. Plans for the entertainment of the thousand or more visitors expected in Walla Walla at the grand lodge meet Ing of the Knights of Pythias next week were completed last night at a meeting of the executive committee of the local organization, says the Walla Walla Union. Those who were present were J. M. Hill, A. T. Pearson and T. D. S. Hart of the executive organization, and Dr. C. F. Becker, chairman of the enter tainment committee. Two special trains, one over the Northern Pacific and the other over the O. R. & X. will bring nearly 1000 knights into the city. The train from Seattle will have aboard 600 members of the organization, while ono from Spokane will carry 300. Headquarters will ho established In the Odd Fellows' temple. ' That accommodations may be secur ed for the many visitors, the enter tainment committee will make a can vass of the city In search of roome.
