VlBltors to Seattle during the coming reception and en tertalnment of the Atlantic battleship fleet, which will arrive In this city on the afternoon of May 23, are as sured that they will not only receive the welcome of tho city and be af forded a long program of Bplondld entertainment, but are bIbo certain they will not be subjected to extor tlonate prices by the hotels and res taurnnts of the city. The Seattle Hotel and Restaurant Keepers' association hail announced that all of Its members have signed an agreement not to raise above their present scale of prices during the vlnlt of the fleet. All the leading res tuurants and hotels In tho city are members of the association, and tho agreement not to raise prices will practically cover all the cafes usu ally patronized by visitors. Arrangements are being perfected to provide plenty of seating accom modations for spectators at the time of the 'great land purado May 26th. In addition to the number of small stands that will be erected by pri vate, parties, an enormous grand stand will be built at the reviewing point .on Second avenue. The stand will have reserved seats for 10,000 persons and applications are now coming In rapidly for tick ets. The committee has announced that a certain lumber of seats will be reserved for out of town specta tors who desire to see the parade from this point. Applications for seats can be sent by mall to A. F. Devereux, care the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the tickets will be mailed as soon as printed. Purchasers should enclose $1.00 for each seat wanted. . Great Interest Is being taken in th. program of athletic And aquatic sports for the afternoons of May 25th and 26th. These events will be of particular Interest to visitors as they will take place in locations where an excellent view of all contests can be obtained. , The aquatic sports are to be on the bay, nnd arrangements are under way to obtain the use of the decks of the battleships as view points for the vis itors. A number of barges will be fitted up by ship owners and a fleet of excursion bonis will also make spe clal trips to the scene of the races and other events. The athletic meet and barbecue in the large playgrounds at Woodland park will afford plenty of room for thousands of spectators to see the events In comfort. One of the greatest attractions of Rose festival week will be the BO-mlle and 180-mile automobile speed contests to be' held during the afternoon of Thursday, June 4. 'This will be the greatest rac ing event ever held on the Pacific coast: the course lies east of this city, each lap being 14 mllos, and a grand stand seating 10,000 people has been erected In full view of the start and finish of the-races. No machines will be allowed to en ter which are not capable of a speed of 65 miles per hour. Three magnifl cent silver trophy cups are offered for each race one valued at $500, one at $250, and four af $100 each. The entire course will be oiled and in perfect condition, the ronds being closed to all traffic during the hours of the races and guarded by detach ments of the Oregon National guard. A field opposite the grandstand will be reserved for tho use of any who may wish to view the races from au phones stationed at different points will report the progress of the races, announcement to be mado on bulle tin boards. The La Grande Star of Sunday says: According to Manager O'Brien of the La Grande professional ball team, the league proposition is now a sure go. Baker City and Walla Walla are ready for the organization and there will be no more delay. La Grande will play at Pendleton Tuesday and Wednesday. At Pendle ton Tuesday evening the league organ ization Is to be effected and the reg ular schedule of games for the season is to be arranged. The performances given were a revelation, and mark a new era in the evolution and transformation of this class of amusements. Tho large audiences were taken by surprise at' the magnitude and excellence of the entertainment furnished. Among 'the performers, and there are upward of 200 of them appear the names of artists of international rep utation. Among them' being the Peerless Potters, aerlallsts; the Honey-Mora troupe, aeriallsts: the McDonald family, bicyclists; the Or ton troupe, wire walkers, cdowns, Jtfg glers, and trapyeze artists; the Sulg omoto family, Japanese performers; Herzog's high schooled horses, direct from their long run at the Hippo drome, New York clly; Gelsler's com edy nnd dancing elephants; Rumley's trained Siberian bears, stag hounds, llaimis, zebrns and other animals In a big combination act; Setler's edu cated Shctlunds; Mile Flnl's Arabian stallions and the wonderful Plzlnl troupe.
