The Carnum and Halley circus played an extended engagement at Madison Square Garden, New York City this spring. The ningllng Brothers circus began their season at the Coliseum, Chita go. It is reported that their business was very large. The Greater Norrls and Howe cir cus, museum, menagerie, hippodrome and congress of nations, began their season In Kan Francisco this year. In thirty days the big show played to 2 4 9,873 paid admissions. The press of the city were enthusiastic In their praise of the new big show. liy arrangement of the three big circuses, each of them opened their season In the metropolis of the var Ions sections of the country that they will play. Harnum and Bailey circus will play the New England states; the Illngllng Bros., the middle west and southern states, and the Greater Nor ris and Rowe circus the territory west of the rockles. Thus each section of the country will have one of the big shows this year. It r estimated that with the three big circuses of the country, the Ring ling Bros., the Greater Norrls and Row;e, and the Barnum and Bailey snows, that there are 1800 people, 1099 horses. 100 elephants, 175 cars, besides hundreds of other animals used. It cost about $12,000 a day to operate these shows. They are about of equal size and .Importance this year. It Is estimated that the distance covered by the three big shows this season will exceed In the aggregate 45,000 miles. Each show will travel on three special trains. It Is said. Heretofore and since 1878, the form has had a few minor changes, all tending to shorten the wording of the application which is always printed In a newspa'per near est the land filed on. After the 15th Inst., the form will be much shorter, and all classes of applications must be made on the same style of blanks. Each class of land was customarily applied for on a distinct and separate form. Begin ning with the 15th, however,, one form will be used In all classes.
