King died Thursday after an illness
of some weeks, from dropsy and
heart trouble. The funeral was held
yesterday from the United Brethren
church and was largely attended. 'She
was 69 years old.

Girl Gets Verdict.
The case of Mamie Redfield against
the Ellensburg school district has
finally been settled in the superior
court of Kittitas county, the little
girl getting 12500 damages, which the
school district paid Immediately up
on hearing the decision, says the
Spokano Chronicle. Two years ago
Mamie Rednelu, 6 years old, wa
badly burned about the limbs by the
overturning of a pall of hot water
which was kept on the radiator in
the schoolroom. ,
This Is said to-be the first case In
the United States where a school dls
trlct has ever been held liable for
such damages. The case was fought
with vigor by C. B. Graves and C
Hovey as attorneys for the school
district, and by Henry J. Snively of
North Yakima as attorney for the lit
tie girl.
