April 18. With but third of the vote of the state counted and returns coming In slowly, H. M, Cake apparently leads Fulton by majority of 2&00 at noon. Cake's majority in Multnomah county will be a little over 3000 and the returns from all over the state outside of Multnomah Indicate that his major ity at the present time is about 1500, Fulton's lead Jn Lane and Clatsop cut Cake's majority, but at 6 o'clock thli' morning Judge Cake stated that the returns from districts outside of Multnomah were more satisfactory than he had expected. Statement No. 1 has apparently carried and will probably control the state--legislature. .The.e.i)tire Mult noma county delegation will be for statement. Nd. .! J." Sam Miller, former Pendleton gam bler and who. came back, to vote yes terday, , was arrested this morning upon three gambling charges that have been pending against him since tast fall. - - . At 3 o'clock this afternoon Col. J. H. Raley ' appeared In' ttie .circuit court In behalf, of Miller and entered pleas of not guUty to ' all three charges. April' 21 was then set as the date for trial. Until last fall Miller maintained quarters over the State saloon and he was arrested upon threii gambling charges by the police. When brought before the police court he plead guil ty and was fined. Later John Mc Court, hctlng' district attorney," filed. similar charges against- him In the circuit court. ..
