Considerable interest is being taken n politics at this time, and a great many candidates are beginning to swarm round. Milton Notes. Milton, Mar. 28. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Elam have returned from Califor nia, where they have been for some time during the winter. They report a very enjoyable trip, but are glad to get back to Oregon. The Milton nurseries owned by A. Miller & Sons, have been shipping a number of trees of late to different parts of the country. Some of the O. R. & N officials were here yesterday and It has since been rumored that they have been looking over the grounds with the Idea of building a cut off between here and Weston, which will cut out a big curve and a steep grade. The conference of the Walla Walla district of the East Columbia conference, Methodist Episcopal church, south, has been in session here since Wednesday, and will come to a close today. There were a large number of ministers and lay delegates In attendance, besides a large number of other visitors. Rev. J. D. Lewellen of Pendleton, presiding elder, presided. Sermons and addresses were delivered by Rev. W. A. Orr of Heppner, Rev. A. L. Thoroughman of Walla Walla; Rev. and Mrs. H. S. Shangle, Professor Da vis and Rev. F. M. Canfleld of Milton, besides prominent ministers from Pendleton and other parts of the dis trict. Mrs. Wm. Drlscoll Is suffering from a severe atack of heart trouble. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. John Bea mer, at their home, March 28, a daughter. Weston will have another market day April 18. Fred Elffert, the auc tioneer from Freewater, has been en gaged for this sale.
