We are learning, however, that this is a mistake. Many of the earlier plantings have been thinned by cutting out from one-half to three fourths of the trees after they have been crowding for a long time. In other orchards the practice has been to prune the outside branch ee to prevent lnterlopplng. But, re gardle8s of the system employed, the trees that crowd are not profitable. They reach upward In search of sun light and thus develop long arms or bodies of useless wood on which no fruit sprouts are formed, or they be come so Interlocked with the neigh boring trees that spraying Is almost out of the question. Hoop Among Chicken. One writer says If your fowls have roop separate the sick ones from the well ones and then give the treatment of coal oil. -This roop business Is not to be trifled with and after siz ing up the situation I am more con vinced than ever that the ax Is the only rellablo remedy. A roopy bird should be killed and burned or burled very deep. Even If you can cure them they are not fit to use as bred- ers or to eat and should not be sold to anyone else to use. Good IIorHTH Puy. Well bred, sound draft horses con tinue to bring good prices and are In strong demand. Ranchmen arc learn ing that it pays to breed the kind of horses that will bring the money and they nre putting in good stallions all oer the country. (wi. mature drafters r.re In demand at 1200 each; well matched teams bring as much as $600. These can be raised as cheap- ly Uld with DO more trouble than Is required for the horse that brings $75. Where I company of ranchmen de sire to purchase a stallion, It is much better for one of the number to visit a market anil there, make his selec tion 'rom n number of horses, rather than purchase from an agent travel ing through the country. It Is often the case that In buying direct from the stables as much as a thousand dollars can be saved In the purchase of a horse. As the wild game vanishes the demand for something to take Its place Increases and squabs seem to fill the bill and can be successfully carried on.
