Y AMONG THE EXCHANGES OF THE INLAND EMPIRE Now You Sec It mid Now You Don't. ,The county commissioners this morning rejected three applications for licenses at Waputo after very brief consideration, but later decided to reopen the matter on tne aavice of the prosecuting attorney that even If Wapato Is Incorporated within a short time the county still would have the right to the whole amount of the license fee. The applicants were J. D. Morrison, H. A. Frank and Charles Bruenn. Attorney W. M. Thompson, who represented Morrison, told the board that his client owned the Cottage ho tel and that he was under a very se rious disadvantage In competition with tho Wapato hotel, which recently received a license for a bar. Mr. Thompson produced a petition from a number of residents of the town in favor of the license and also the sum of $600 In $10 gold pieces, together with a certified check for $600, to pay the license fee, and planted these Inducements before the board. After ' some consideration this af ternoon the commissioners decided to grant all three applications ana Wapato accordingly will have four saloons, yielding a revenue of $4000 to the county. It Is Jlkely that part of this revenue will be utilised to pro vile police protection In the town, a provision the residents are most anxious to have. Late this afternoon the commis sioners reconsidered their vote on the Wnpato petitions and decided to turn down all three applications. This ac tion was taken when It became known that one of the applicants, Bruenn, did not want license If more than one was to bo granted. The commission- nr.d their belief that Inas much as the people hud signed three petitions It would be unrair to grant mi una without the others. This was the third vote taken on the Wapato applications, the commissioners, turn ing all three down this morning, then rrniHnir thm. and late this alter noon again refusing thorn.
