The pnst few warm days have acted like a tonic to us all. "Whatever the weather may be," says he, "Whatever the weather may be. It's the song ye sing and the smiles ye wear That's a-makln' the sun shine everywhere." Mrs. H. A. Clemens, of Stanwood, Wash., Is In the city the guest of rela tives. Mips Edith Blusher and Miss Kath leen Furnish left today for Spoknne to resume their studies at Brunot Hall. Mrs. William Slusher returned home on Wednesdny from southern California, where she has been spend ing the winter. Mrs. Frank Frailer was hostess on Monday afternoon for the Duplicate Whist club. The next meeting will be with Mrs. J. R. Dickson. Mrs. Leon Cohen and Mrs. Fred Judd are expected home this evening from Portland, where they have spent the past week visiting and shopping. Mrs. C. E. Troutman of Aberdeen, Is expected In Pendleton next week to visit friends and to attend to the ship ping of her household effects to Aberdeen, Mrs. J. A. Carlson of Kamela, Is expected to arrive next week to be the guest of her sister, Mrs. Bert Huffman, for several weeks, while Mr. Carlson Is absent In Europe. Miss Javlna Rtanfleld pleasantly en tertained a few friends last evening In compliment to Dave Hill and Harry Morrlsey, who leave next week for the east, where they will remain for sev eral months. Mrs. W. E. Prultt entertained In a pleasant manner on Tuesday after noon, the first meeting of the Jolly Neighbors' club since Lent. Mrs. Al Koeppen was awarded first prise, Mrs. Frank Perham winning second, and Mrs. Babb of Portland, third prize. A surprise party was tendered to D. B. Waffle on Wednesday evening on the occasion of his 43d birthday. A large number of friends gathered at the Waffle home at 415 Lewis street, where games, light refreshments. and a pleasant social evening were en Joyed. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter will leave tomorrow for a prolonged east ern trip. Mrs. Carter will visit at St. Paul and Chicago, while Mr. Carter will visit at his former home In Vir ginia. While In Chicago Mrs. Carter will be the guest of Mrs. Herrlck, formerly Miss Anna Marshall. An enjoynble afternoon was spent with Mrs. Clark Nelson as hostess on Friday afternoon by the members of the "BOO" club, of which she Is a member. The club guests -Invited by the hostess were Mrs. W. L. Thomp son, Mrs. Frank Moule and Miss Har riet Thompson, the guest's prize be ing won by the former. Miss Maude Sheridan was the successful contes tant for the club prize. The Sans Souel club met on lest Monday evening with Mrs. Leona Thompson, Mrs. Thomas Warner be ing the assisting hostess. The prizes for points were won by Mrs. Minnie Stlllmnn and Mrs. McAllister. The club guests were Mrs. Alice Sheridan, Mrs. W. L. Thompson and Mrs. A. J. McAllister. At the next club meet ing Mrs. W. E. Brock and Mrs. J. F. Robinson will be hostesses. A pleasant birthday party was ten dered to Oeorge Hamblen at his home at 421 Garfield street, on Wednesday evening. It was the occasion of his 63d birthday and a number of friends gathered In the evening as a sur prise to Mr. Hamblen. A number of appropriate birthday presents were re celved and games, refreshments and a serenade by the Girls' Glee club of Pendleton academy were pleasant feat ures of the evening. A social session of Bushee chapter No. 19, of the Order of Eastern Star, was held at Masonic temple on Tues day evening, April 9, In which the mn of the order entertained and furnished the refreshments. The commlttae having charge of the entertainment was composed of the following: Dr. J. A. Best, A. J. Owen, T. J. Tweedy, Will Ingram, John V. Vert, Dr. H. 8. Holslngton and H. E. Bickers. An elaborate spread was enjoyed by th membership and the men's entertain ment was one of the very best of the season. Wi-Htoil Hog Sold f(ii' $:!2.32. A Berkshire hog weighing ,404 pounds, was sold to the Farmers' Market Wednesday by lven O'Tiaira. Mr. O'Harra received 132.32 for Ihe animal, and thinks if anything on the ranch could show more profit than this particular hog, It would be an other and bigger one. Weston Leader.
