According to the following from tho Yakima Republic, the sewage problem bids fair to be an acute one In all the cities of Washington ere long. The state board of health will at an early date take steps to prevent the cities from running sewage Into the fresh water streams. If the plans of the board are carried out the city of North Yakima will have to spend about J3000 to correct Its present method of getting rid of Its sewage, which flows into the Yakima river and all the other cities along the stream and In other parts of the state will have to correct the same abuses. The state board Is preparing to take steps to carry out the law In this rigard and those cities that do not comply with the request of the board will be tnandamused to compel them to comply. As a means of starting the movement. Dr. J. M. Semple, of Spo kane, president of the board, and Dr. P. Frank, of this place, secretary. have gone to Vancouver, B. C. to In spect a tank that has been built there for the disposal of sewage. This tank is the latest method of getting rid of the solid matter in the sewage from cities. By this system the sewage runs into the tank end the liquid is separated from the solids'. The so'lds are converted Into a fertil izer that will bring in a srnod revenue to the city adopting the system. The liquid is then made septic. The board will take steps against all the cities of the state where the sew age from the same run Into the fresh water streams. All the large and small towns along the Yakima will have to provide means of getting rid of their sewage. Walla Walla, Spo kane and every other city In eastern Washington will come under the new ruling of the board, while the cities of the coast with a few exceptions, will be exempt on account of the sewage from the coast cltl?s running into the sound t other salt water bodies. There will probably be ho objec tions raised by the present administra tion of the cltv to carry out the plan of the board. Mayor Reed Is In favor of It and several of the rnuncllmen will sunport him. The proposed nc tinn of the state board Is for the good of the people of the whole state. With less pollution in the streams the pos- ibllity of epidemics of diseases will be reduced to a minimum. A great amount of sewage runs Into the Yakima river from this city. The river water Is used by all the Inhabi tants below this place for Irrigation nd domestic purposes. With the water died with sewage from a city this ize It becomes filthy and unfit for domestic purposes. By the establish ment of the sewage tank as It Is used t Vancouver the city will not be lia ble to prosecution by the people below who use the water. City Attorney Forsyth was seen to day and aked about' the power of the state board to enforce Its rules against polluting streams from sewage from cities. He said: The board of health has full powers under the law of the state to take- such steps as are contemplated for maintaining the purity of the fresh water streams. But there Is no reason why the cltv of North Yakima or any other city should oppose the matter, There Is no reason why the people living nelow us shculd drink water that Is polluted by the filth from our city. The best thing for anv cltv or town to do is to provide one of the septic tanks far the disposal of the sewage." The Laal Versailles llourbon. There Is tit Versailles au oruuge tree some fire centuries, old. This tree, which was taken from Koutnluobleau ot Versailles on the completion of the orangery, was already famous undei the title of the Gratia I'.ourliou. A Waterapont. A scientist says of a waterspout that passed over a certain district in France: "Its passage was accompanied with a sound which is described as resem bling that of a battery of artillery drawn on the gallop over a paved street. At the base of an extended nimbus hung the reversed cone charac teristic of phenomena of this kind. A strong wind was then blowing from the south-southwest. The waterspout was preceded by a storm and followed by a shower." i Here's Money Saved Means a great deal when the garment is of the KAYSER make f f $ t We have over-stocked on. summer underwear, here is a chance to supply yourself with the best all hand-made yokes, sleeveless vest, in the market, at wholesale prices. Is charged by Ptate Land ( ommlsslnner K. W. Ross in a letter to Representative W. L. Jones, says an Olymola dispatch. Instances are cited of this "rob bery," and the prediction Is made that the state will be robbed of between 300.000 and BOO, 000 acres of Its grant ed lands without opportunity to secure lieu selections. Is the report that comes from Olympla. The manner In which Jhe Interior department Is alleged to stand In with fraudulent entries while the state is forced to n red tape routine to Its disadvantage Is also referred to. Land Commissioner Ross' letter Is In reply to one received from Con gressman Jones requesting the land department nf the state to waive claim to a certain tract of 160 acres of land In Chehalls connlv, fur which the Interior department desires to Issue patent to one Hogan Hansen, son of Christopher Hansen, deceased, who settled on the land In 1890 when It was nnsurveyed, and remained there until his death In 1893, when his son settled on the claim, where he has resided ever since. The Interior department points out, through Congressman Jones, that Hansen's equities In the land nre very strong: thnt the government desires to Issue him a patent to the claim, and that If the state will release Its claim to this land, the Interior department will approve a lieu selection by the state In place of this particular tract Land Commissioner Ross says he cannot see his way clear, In the Inter est nf this state, to release this land to entry, but will do so If any way can be pointed out, under the rules Uric Add and Gravel Are caused by the Kidneys being unable to properly filter the impurities from the blood.
