DAILY EAST OREGONIAN, PENDLETON, OREGON, IVEDXESDAY, MARCH 21, 1906. PAGE SEVEN". j Among the Exchanges j I of the Inland Empire j f Classified Advertisements BRING CERTAIN, QUICK RESULTS EIGHT PAGE. 771 tin w& H h Xo Mutton Sheep In Yakima. ' James Wright, the Yakima sheep man, got an order March 19 from the Union Meat company, of Portland, for 10 carloads of mutton sheep to be de livered In Portland Immediately, price 1 cents at Portland. This price Is equivalent to about B 1-2 cents here. When Mr. Wright was seen by a Yakima Republic reporter In regard to this order he was at that time on his way to the telegraph office to wlro the Portland firm of his Inabil ity to fill the order. There were sev eral well known sheepmen who were talking to Mr. Wright about the prop osition, but none of them had the mut ton sheep on hand with which they could accommodate the Portlnnd peo ple. "There are no mutton sheep In the valley at this time," Bald Mr. Wright, "and I mean by that good, fat grain fed sheep that are ready to market. We have no kick at the price, offered, but the big demnnd for mutton this last fall and winter has depleted the ranks of the marketable mutton." Sam Cameron, In talking about the matter to a Republic reporter, stated that If the sheepmen had held their mutton until this spring they would have realized big prices. "Our men are turning down orders for mutton every day," said Mr. Cameron, ."and Mr. Wright's Inability to fill this Port land order Is nothing out of the ordl-na-y on nccount of conditions which have existed here for some time." No wool sales have been reported since the deal which was closed last Thursday afternoon when Hellbron & Co., of Portland, bought 6000 pounds from Knnack Bros., paying 12 cents, as previously announced by the Re public. . i Charged Willi KmlM-Kleinent. Baker City Democrat. Halter Practically Out of Debt. In striking contrast with the finan cial condition of Baker county, Grant Lcounty presents an indebtedness on March 1, 1906, of $126,631.61. Baker county Is practically out of debt and Its warrants command a pre mium. Only a few years ago Baker county was deeper In debt than Grant county Is now, but by good business manage ment on the part of Judge Travllllon and his able assistants on the county board, that debt has been wiped out and Baker county stands at the head of the list of state counties as regards I In financial condition.
