It Is situ eted about six miles west of town In Washington gulch. Its 200 acres be long to George F. Wright, the pro gressive farmer. And now comes the statement, well verified, from the Washington gulch ranch, that Mr. Wright has propagat ed a brand new cabbage which is ex citing horticulturists and vegetarians. For many years Mr. Wright who, by the way. Is one of Oregon's foremost botanists, has been experimenting with that most succulent vegetable, the cabbage. All kinds of seeds and propagations have been tried with more or less success, but with Indom itable vigor he has pursued nature's secret me resu.i 01 iuus,,n moving the wheat one stalk, and which bears the sug gestive name, "the trinity cabbage." The heads are early, mid-summer, and fall, and come in rotation as the season progresses. French, first vice-president of The Dalles district of the Ep worth league, left this morning for Walla Walla to attend a meeting of officers of the Columbia river and The Dalles districts at that place, which Is held for the purpose of se lecting a meeting place for a general convention of the Epworth league so cieties of the two districts, to be held In May. About 80 local societies will be represented at the general conven tion and it is possible that Pendleton may be selected. Cecil R. Wade, candidate for the democratic nomination for represen tative from Umatilla county, has filed with the county clerk a copy of his petition for the nomination. The platform contains 93 words and cov ers nine subjects on which the atti tude of the candidate Is set forth In a concise manner. The petition In full Is as follows: To Frank Sallng, county clerk for the coun(y of Umatilla, stale of Ore gon, and to the members of the Dem ocratic party, and the electors of the county of Umatilla, in the state of Oregon: 1, Cecil R. If I am nominated for the office of rep resentative at the primary nominating election to be held In the county of Umatilla, In the state of Oregon, on the 20th day of April, 1906, I will accept the nomination and will not withdraw, and If 1 am fleeted I will qualify as such officer. CECIL R1. WADE. Few Sheared Sheep at Cunningham Ranch and Sheds Furnish Plenty of Protection. Shearing has been In progress at the Cunningham sheep ranch" for sev eral days, all the bucks and one band of ewes having been sheared befora the rtorm, but as there Is ample shed room on the ranches for all the shear ed sheep there will be little suffering on account of the cold weather. A telephone message from the Cun ningham ranch this . morning said thut there Is about five Inches of snow there and thut the sheep are In excellent condition. The carload of bucks which arrived here a few days ago for the Cunningham ranch, Is now at Pilot Rock. Fifteen Inches of Snow. L. L. Mann received a 'phone mes sage this morning from his ranch 20 miles south of Pilot Rock, saying thut there Is about 15 Inches of snow In that portion of the county. At Kamela there Is now about 30 inches of new snow, it Is very light, how ever, and is melting somewhat, today. At Echo there is but a very light snowfall, not over an Inch having fal len there during the storm. On But- ,ter creek a light fall, barely covered the ground. That business Is not at a standstill In Pendleton Is shown by the fact that the Peoples Warehouse has secured two special delivery wagons for Its grocery department, and commenced running them this morning. Since the grocery department was established 16 months ago the regu lar delivery system has been used. The East Oregonlan has recently received a large number of orders for papers containing the addresses delivered by Judge Stephen A. Low ell, of this city before the meetings of Knee Cap Broken by Fall. C. Ades. an express messenger run ning on the Spokane branch of the O. R. & N. between this city and Spo kane, fell on the platform at the O. R. X. depot after the arrival of No. 7 last evening and broke his knee cap. Mr. Ades came In on his regular run on No. 7 and after completing his work In the enr started to go up town, and slipped or. the Ice and snow on the platform and sustuined a bad fracture of the patella or knee cap cone.
