Robert N. Bell of Boise, was a vis itor here last night while on his way home from the northern part of his state. William Durrell, a horse dealer of Grcsham, Ore., is in town today, hav ing come up for the purpose of dealing with A. C. Ruby. Major J. J. McKoln left this morn Ing for Shoshone, Idaho, to take charge of the agency and school on that reservation. Mrs. Ira Kemp of Athena, came up this morning from Portland and left again on the 9 o'clock train for her home at the above place. Division Foreman J. D. Matheson, of the O. R. & N. mechanical depart ment at La. Grande, was In the city last evening on a brief business trip. R. W. Fletcher, who has been visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Fletcher, for a short time, has return ed to his work on the O. R. & N. at Lake Chatcolet. Charles Hamilton of the O. R. & N. yard crew. Is confined to his home with a severe attack of rheumatism, and J. E. McHughey of Spokane, is In his place while he Is III. However, the district attorney was not aware that the matter hud been set for this date' and consequently was not ready to havo It brought up. This morning he said that It was his desire to first communicate with the state land board and ascertain their wishes and pluns In the matter, nnd also to consult the attorney general before having it dis posed of. Lnst evening the Mar shal received a message from the chief of police at La Grande saying that a man had been arrested there who had goods In his posslsslon corresponding with those stolen from the Great East ern. According to Iho authorities there the man was caught with con siderable plunder in his possession, and among other things articles of clothing similar to what Is said to have been stolen here. This evening Sheriff T. D. Taylor nnd B. F. Nicholas will leave for Ln Grande for tho purpose of Investigat ing tho case.
