In order that Baker City people who have made sleeper reservations on the O. R. & N. may go to bed at their usual bed time, hereafter, a bul letin has been Issued from the Port land offices, to the effect that the sleeper known as the "Baker Ctty sleeper." be cut out of train No. 6, at that point henceforth, instead of go ing to Huntington, as formerly. Because of the lateness of No. 5. the westbound evening train, many times those who have reserved berths are not permitted to enjoy them until late In the morning, a the car was taken through to Huntington on No. (, and returned on No. 5. Now the car will be left at Baker City each day, as the eastbound passes there at noon, and Baker City people may go down to the depot and go to bed at sundown If they so desire, or If the hilarity of the night before should make such a course necessary. In order to catch up lost sleep. It is thought that the same ar rangement will be made for this city If the trains continue to be late and crowded as they have been for the past month. Contracts for the construction of the new building to be erected by the Women of Woodcraft in Portland will be let this evening, at the Alblna offices of the order. Mrs. C. C. Van Orsdall, grand guar dian, accompanied by her daughter, Carol, left Saturday night for Port land, to be present as a member of the building committee today. The structure .will cost between $45,000 and (50.000, and will be erected at once for headquarters for all the grand officers of the growing order. The other members of the build ing committee beside Mrs. Van Ors dall are Grand Clerk J. L. Wright, Grand Banker Mrs. Mary S. Hurley, and Grand Manager Mrs. Annie Haw kins. At present 12 clerks and ste nographers are employed in the of fice of the grand clerk In Alblna and an average of 200 letters are received and answered every day. Four hundred brand new cars will he the Christmas present which E. H Harrlmnn will present to the O. R. & N. this year, It Is reported. Two hundred of these will be box earn. 100 flats and 100 coal and bal last cars. Borrowing cars with which to handle an Immense and constantly growing business Is out of the ques tlon. for all roads are crowded to the limit and have few to lend. D., pas tor ot the Unlversalist church In Cambrldgeport, Mass., a suburb of Boston, accompanied by Mrs. Blck nell and their son Ingham, are in the city visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Colesworthy for a few days. Mrs. lticknoll Is a sister of Mr. Coleswor thy and they had not met before for a number of years and the reunion is n delightful event for both fami lies. While Rev. Blcknell's church Is lo cated In Cambridgeport, their home Is In Boston. They are making a tour of the Pacific coast and came up from Portland Saturday evening. They win return to Portland soon and go home by way of Los Angeles and the southern route. They are delighted with the west and have met many surprises on their Journey. In the police court this morning Wilbur Carlisle, who says he Is a school teacher, was arraigned for peddling without a license and was given a sentence of $6, or three days In Jail. Carlisle was arrested Satur day evening by Officer Stephens be cause of suspicious actions on the part of the former. During the eve ning Carlisle attempted to sell a watch which he said he had found, to sev eral different men on the streets, and he made the error of trying to Jlsp0 of the timepiece to Officer Stephens, who docs not wear a unlrorm. As a result the man was locked up for the evening and this morning was allowed to explain the matter to Recorder Fits Gerald. This was not done satis factorily, and he was given the above Federal Official in Charge of the Bu reau of Animal Industry Ior Western Division hi the City. Dr. George S. Hlckox, In charge of the bureau of animal Industry for the western division with headquar ters In Salt Lake City, is In the city on a tour of the states in his district and will leave for Portland tomorrow night after conferring with the fed eral Inspectors, Drs. Lantx, Bibb and I.ytle, In this city. The condition of stock In the dis trict Is very good and the bureau Is doing a wonderful work In suppress ing disease and preventing the spread. of disease from state to state In ship ping. The car factories are rushed to the limit of their capacity and It may be a year before the entire order for new cars is turned out from the shops, but as fast as they are completed they will be sent the system and put in ser vice. Within the past two years the O. R. & N. has received 30 new engines. principally for the mountain division out of La Grande, this being the larg est number received by any western road in that time. studying for the ministry. About noon today an Indian woman walked Into the recorder's office and said that there was a drunken Indian, who was saying he would stab a woman with a knife. The woman, ! she said, was her sister. Saturday evening a man giving his name as William Blackburn, was ar rcsted by Officer Stephens for having, robbed the Jameson lent, near the Walters' mill. The capture of the tent thief, which was made by the above policeman with the assistance of Mr. Jameson and Frank Day. was a rather neat job. During the afternoon It was report ed to the police that the tent had been robbed of a watch, considerable cloth ing and other articles. Thereupon Officer Stephens, who Is acting as marshal while Chief Coffman Is at Bingham Springs, went to the place In company with the above named man. While looking around In the shrubbery near the scene they found Blackburn, and on examining him found some of the articles upon his person. He was then placed In the city Jail and a complaint will be made against him before the district attor ney. down somewhat. Dr. Mann Has Platted and Is Selling an Addition. Dr. and Mrs. E. A. Mann, who have been vlBlting here since Saturday, left today on the delayed No. 1 for Arling ton, where they take the branch road to Condon. Accordlngto Dr. Mann there will be much building done at Condon this fall, and In fact, Is now under way. Before the railroad reached there lumber was much higher than at present and as a result work was withheld until after the road was fin ished. Now It Is on In full blast, and the noise of building Is heard from morning until night. Soon after reaching Condon Dr. Mann purchased 40-acre tract at one edge of the town, and this he Is now selling as town lots, with great success. Novel Fishing Rods.
