Lloyd, the veterinarian, visited the farm of Hans Sorenson, north of the city yesterday, to give medical attention to a valuable work horse, which Is now recovering. Oregon's mining display at the Lewis and Clark exposition will show astonishingly rich deposits of gold, sliver and copper, with specimens of gold from very rich new discoveries that run as high as 120,000 to the ton. Two special trains mugnificently equipped, will bring to the Lewis and Clark exposition in July several hun dred of the leading business men of Denver, under the auspices of the Denver Commercial club. In the party will be a number of million aires. This promises to be the most elaborate commercial "Junket" ever undertaken In America. Frank G. Dlgelow, whose defalca tion for over 11,000,000 closed the First National bank of Milwaukee, Is believed to be the most aggravated case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the history of the United States. Invariably march in a shower of fireworks, says- the Walla Walla Union. Their brilliant and picturesque uni form has always proved an induce ment to enlist, and In the bloodiest of campaigns It hns been incitement to bravery. The Topeka zouaves carried a heavy carbine equipped with a sword bayonet of hardened and sparkling steel. Their dress consisted of a loose jacket and waistcoat of blue cloth, handsomely ornamented with yellow braid. Added to this were madder colored Turkish trousers and a fez cap of the same color, having a yellow tassel and being surrounded by a soft green turban. A sky blue sash of wool, leggings of yellow leather nnd white gaiters completed the apparel. Arrangements have been perfected whereby following the lodge work of the Foresters at the I. O. O. F. tem ple next Friday evening, a company will be formed to counterpart the Topeka body. At that time the com mittee already appointed will submit its report after which correspondence will be taken up with the state offi cials looking to the equipment being furnished from the general fund. Constantinople, April 28. A dis patch received here states that Sanan, the capital of Ymen province, Arabia, surrendered to the Insurgents April 20. Redfleld arrived last night from Heppner, and is a guest of he Hotel Pendleton today. William Klrby, of Echo, arrived this morning from that growing burg and Is a guest at the Hotel St. George. D. C. Brownell, the well known lr rigationist of Umatilla, is up from that place today and transacting bus iness here. O. E. Harper, proprietor of the Blue Mountain creamery, visited Athena today in the interest of the creamery. Mrs. M. L. Cuusey, of La Grande, who has been visiting Mrs. C. F. Brown for a few days, returned home last night. E. Doering, a well known and ex tensive wheatralser of the Juniper country, was here yesterday upon a short business trip. Mrs. Mary Epple, Miss May Epple and George Ferguson left this morn ing for Alba, upon a visit at the Con nell ranch neur that place. Mrs. C. F. Brown will dispose of her elegant residence property on South Main street, and go to Topeka, Kan., to reside permanently. Mrs. Eleanor Cameron, Miss Nellie Cameron and Toolsle Cameron re turned last evening from Portland, where they huve been for some time. Mis. W. S. Perry, Mrs. E. M. Lyons and Mrs. Ed Rubedew, are visiting Mrs. J. H. Horn at the T. G. Hailey ranch on Wild Horse, near Saxe Station. Conductors C'oykendall nnd Kelsay. of the Mountain division of the O. R. & N will attend the grand lodge of Conductors, which will be held in Portland, beginning May 9. Circuit Judge W. R. Ellis will leave in the morning for Prinevllle, Crook county, where lie will hold' a term of circuit court for Judge Bradsliaw of that district, the seventh. Dr. 'George S. Hlckock, head of the bureau of animal industry In the west, left on the evening train yes terday for Salt Lake City, after hav ing consulted with Major McKoln. of the reservation. Mrs. C. A. She has been serving with the com mittee which is arranging the Uma tilla county school exhibit for the fair. The committee has now fin ished the work on the cabinets, and will likely complete their labors en tirely by tomorrow. M. L. Causey, a prominent citizen of La Grunde, and one of the leading real estate men of the west, passed through last evening from Portland to his home, after spending a few days in the metropolis, making ar rangements for the Installation of the Union county exhibit at the Lewis and Clark fair. M. E. Worrell, managing editor and correspondent of the Board of Trade Journal, a new publication Just Issued In Portlnnd, was In the city last evening Interviewing the Com mercial association and business men In regard to a page write-up of Pen dleton and Umatilla county for a fu ture number of the Journal. He left last evening for Walla Walla. "Sherman County All Right." George T. Pair, of the Eastern Or egon Land company, was In town this morning. "You people seem to have an Idea that Sherman county la dry ing up this season. Let me disabuse you of such an Impression," said he. "Our crop will surprise you yet, for It's going to be all right." The trade and commerce . depart ment, Ottawa, has received from the chief Inspector of the Manitoba grain inspection district a comparative statement showing the number of li censed elevators and warehouses, with the capacity of each, In his district in the years 1902-3 and 1903-4. In the former year there were 822 ele vators and warehouses, with a total capacity of 30,356,440 bushels; In the latter theer were 982 elevators and warehouses, with a capacity of 41, 186,000 bushels. The elevators In creased by 178 and the warehouses decreased by 18, and the net gain In capacity wns 10,829,560 bushels. In Manitoba the Canadian Northern last year had 37 more elevators than It ha.1 the year before and seven less warehouses'. The Canadian Pacific rat-way had 66 more elevators and six less warehouses. In the Northwest Territories the Canadian Pacific rail way has Increased Its elevators by 85, but has five less warehouses. Amer ican consul at Ottawa. Manufacturing Ice Cream.
