TKJf PAGEi DAttY EAST ORKGONIAN, PENDLETON, OREGON, FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 1905. PAGE NIXB. FISH MARKET. AMONG THE EXCHANGES OF THE INLAND EMPIRE Iilalio Lands Withdrawn. Between 4,000,000 and 5,000,000 acres of public land In Idaho are to day withdrawn from public entry, pending the ultimate creation of new forest reservations, Buys a Washing ton ppeclal. It In practically assured that most of the land will be perma nently reserved, though a minor por tion will be restored to entry, either because It is purely agricultural land, or because It Is unfitted for forestry purposes. The largest withdrawals are those made for the Shoshone reserve and the proposed addition to the Bitter Root reserve. The former embraces approximately 1,500,000 acres lying In the center of Shoshone county; the latter tract adjoins the present Bitter Root reserve on the south and lies In Idaho and Boise counties. Next in importance are the with drawals for the Little Salmon and Sawtooth reserves, which each em brace about 709,000 atres of public land. The former lies along the range of the Seven Devils mountains, In Western Idaho, in Washington and Idaho counties. The Sawtooth with drawal embraces the summit of the Sawtooth mountains, northeast of Boise. In extreme Northern Idaho Is a withdrawal of about 2,000,000 acres adjoining a larger withdrawal In Mon tana. These lands are held up with the Intention of ultimately creating a Kootenai forest reserve Just south ef the International boundary. To the south of this withdrawal, and on the west slope of the conti nental divide, is a smaller withdrawal of 140,000 acres, which it Is proposed shall be converted Into the Coeur d'Alene reserve. This latter with drawal occupies the extreme northern end of Shoshone county. Boise Capi tal Npws. Dlliiff Stock In Idaho. J. C. Hopkins and George Portlock f Emmett, are in the city today con ferring with Dr. Noble, the state vet erlnary surgeon, regarding the dip plug of 1C0 head of horses suffering with mange which they desire to ship to Wyoming. Under the present law no animal can be shipped out of the state without a clean certificate of health. In some sections of the state the disease Is quite prevalent, espe ciallv Is this true of the horses In Canyon county. Dr. Noble will give the gentlemen all of the assistance he can. The plans for building the tanks are being prepared today and as soon as the tanks have been constructed the state veterinary will send an Inspector to superintend the dipping. This will be the first instance of dipping horses under the new law In Idaho and the plans are being pre pared with considerable care as It is likely there will be a considerable amount of such work to be done through the state to wipe out the dis ease. The work of dipping sheep Is going along very satisfactorily. Dr. McBlr- ney, who has charge of the govern ment Inspectors, went to Fremont county to get some inspectors start ed. Boise Capital News. New Iwnie In License Law. When the decision of Judge White was passed down in the case of Wil liam Eblln, who had pleaded guilty to permitting minors in his saloon, the revocation of his license was made therein. Prior to his plea he had sold his saloon to Antone Klau- ser. The license was written so that In the name of Eblin It would have stood until next July. Complaint has been lodged with the officials that the saloon has been continuing to do business since the revocation, without a license. Klauser Is said to have the Impres sion tha.t in acquiring the place he also got the license until Its expira tion next July. This Is the story he has put up for some days past. As the penalty of the court made a" for feiture In Eblln's case, several of the council now Insist that Klauser put up or shut up. Baker City Herald. lk'lng Taken to Grant County. Sheriff John W. Ambrose of Can yon City, Grant county, Ore., passed through here last night having In cus tody W. M. Reeves, who Is wanted at Canyon City on a charge of horse stealing. It seems that on a recent visit to Pollock In the Salmon river country. Sheriff Greene of Idaho county, recognized Reeves by a de scription given the officer. Greene then sent word to the Grant county sheriff who passed through here a few days ago en route to Pollock, where he arrested Reeves. Grange vllle Free Press. 1 ISO-Pound Hog. Enterprising citizens of Union county are fattening a hog for the Lewis and Clark fnlr. It weighs at the present time 1160 pounds, just 27 pounds more than the prize hog at St. Louis. It Is wheat fed, the East ern people doubting whether a hog can be fattened on anything except corn, and this demonstration Is being made for their benefit. La Grande Chronicle.
