I EIGHT PAGES. DAILY BAST ORE GONIAL, PENDLETON, OREGON, MONDAY, APRIL 10, 1905. PAUE SEVEN. CARDS FOR SALE, AMONG THE EXCHANGES OF THE INLAND EMPIRE Peculiar Dlscrt'iwiicj'. The umouirt of $6246. S3 has "been apportioned by the county school superintendent among the schools of this county, this being the regular apportionment. The basis of appor tionment is 1860 persons of school age In the county, giving to each the sum of $3.38. The law provides that the sum ap portioned each year must not be less than 16 per capita, but the fund for the year from July 1, 1904. to July 1, 1905, falls short 85 cents per capita. It Is not known whether this short age Is due to too low a levy, or too high a delinquent tax lift; hut It Is very unfortunate, ns the districts will fall to realize the sum they had counted on In the continuation of the school. Some time ago we saw a statement from Mr. Cummlngs, our Morrow county nurseryman, relative to the growing of almonds on Willow creek. He had been exhibiting some of the nuts grown by B. M. Boohr of Lex ington. Cummlngs sold the tree to Mr. Boohr four years ago when It was planted nnd has made a good growth ever since. The crop of al monds on the tree amounted to about one-half . bushel and the nuts are of good size, well matured and of good flavor. The success of this tree seems to be complete. Well, why not? Last fall we saw a number of trees loaded with these nuts, the fin est kind, away up on the Columbia In the state of Washington. Why should they not grow successfully here on Willow creek? lone Proclalmer. M. BENTLEY REPRESENTS THE oldest and most reliable fire and ac cident Insurance companies.
