Ed Brandon, a 17-year-old boy who kas been employed herding sheep for Bd Palmer In Ferry Canyon, met with a serious and painful accident last Thursday while at his work on the range. He carried a .38-caliber re volver while at work, and when the ac'ddont occurred the gun was In his hip pocket, muzzle up. He was sit ting; on the ground resting, and when he started to get up the hammer of the pistol caught on a rock, against which he was leaning, and the wea pon was discharged. The ball took effect In the right wrist and ranged upward almost to the elbow, shatter ing the bone and making a serious and painful wound. Dr. Wood was called to attend the wounded boy, and In dressing the arm several pieces of bone were re moved. Condon Globe. 700,000 Acre WlUulrawn. Register J. B. West and Receiver C. H. ' This subject was brought Into pro mlnence last winter by the crusade f the medical doctors of Kansas City against the use of headache powders. They are ooal tax products, whose re sults are gotten through their de pressing Influence on the heart's ac Won. Which Influence results finally In an Incurable heart disease. Then, too. they relieve for the time only. and medical texts assert their failure to cure. Ostoeopathy goes at this In the aa customed way SEEKING the CAUSE. This Is almost Invariably found In slight displacement of bones of the neck, particularly the first and second vertebrae. Those are the predisposing causes, rendering the condition delicate, ready to be overthrown by one of the many exciting Influences, Indiges tion, female troubles, excitement, ex haustion, eto. The cure Is evident, correct the bony displacements. This Is what the Osteopath does, and he rarely falls to permanently cure. BUSS illEl! stated that he held receipts from the officials for the fines then Imposed and there was evidently a screw loose In their legal machinery. Baker City Herald. Fight) In Now On. The Northern Pacific company yes terday fired a big gun In the rail road warfare now being waged with the O. R. & N. company In the Lewis ton territory by bringing to the city a party of 12 surveyors v(ho will this morning commence the survey down the Snake river from this point. A Clarkston message last night stated that the engineers In charge of the work had secured a permit to locate their camp at a point near the big tiluff'on the south bank of the Snake river and It is believed that the work of surveying the Snake river line will commence at once. The party came to Lewlston from Seattle and the engineers In charge are registered under the names of H. C. Estep and E. Friday. The old Northern Puclfic survey crosses the Puuke river at a point al most due west from the company's roundhouse and from Clarkston fol lows down the south bank of the river to a point below Hi par la. where the river Is again crossed and the line extended to Pasco. The company also has a survey down the north bank of the Columbia from Pasco to Portland and engineers are now in the field re newing this survey. The' situation now shows clearly that the fight Is being resumed on the Identical lines of the contest of five years ago a battle for the water grades with the Lewlston country as the storm center. Strike on I-wls and Clark Fair Buildings Doing Dnmnge. A railroad man who has Just visit ed Portland, declares that owing to he strike on the Lewis and Clark fair buildings and Inability of the large exhibitors to secure skilled labor, the Westlnghouse Airbrake exhibit, one of the most elaborate mechanical ex hibits seen at the St. Louis exposition will not be brought to the Lewis and Clark fair. Other mechanical exhib its will also be withdrawn, it Is said, If skilled workmen cannot be secured to prepare the buildings and put the machinery In place. The present strike will thus do In calculable damage to the fair if al lowed to continue. It is said there are hordes of unskilled workmen at work on the buildings, but they are In each others way and make little progress. The absence of the Westlnghouse exhibit will be a severe blow to the fair aa this and the General Electric exhibit comprised the most Important portion of the mechanical exhibit. COMING EVENTS.
