The subject of spraying to rid the orchard of insect pests was spiritedly entered into Saturday at the meetin of the fruitgrowers of the county In the chamber of commerce. Nearly rtoaen well known horticultural auth oritles were present and several new and profitable Ideas were aavancea, as well as some of the old ones that were warmly defended, says Sookesman-Revlew. C. L. Smith took considerate lime showing how the new oust sprayer might not be so advantageous as me old liquid method, but insisted that spraying alone could save " the or chard, whether It be the dust or liquid. Mr. Smith pointed out the fact that In the windy season the dust method could not be worked ad vantageously, and that a large crop of larvae could be started before the dust sprayer could be used with real profit.. He also said that to Insure effectual results the fruitgrower must spray at least five times during the season, In this section, while in warmer sections at least seven times Is necessary. He said that 21 days is the usual time to elapse from time of the Inst of the first brood until the first of the sec ond brood began to work, It being necessary to spray In the Intermission to combat the second brood, and to sprny two weeks thereafter.
