Dan to Divide Wasco. Learning that a bill for the creation of Cascade county, the western bound ary of which will run along a line extending up Seven Mile hill, below The Dalles, will be introduced in the legislature by Representative Jayne. and that a petition will accompany It signed by Hood River people, at a meeting held this morning it was de cided to circulate a remonstrance. Dallei people have nothing against Hood River; but feel that such a move would be Injurious at this time. It is not thought that the new county has a ghost of a show; but It waa thought advisable to present to the legislature the opinion of the leading business men of the county of Wasco on the subject. The Dalles Chronicle. Baker County Will Place an Exhibit. The county court and commission ers, before adjourning for the term, Saturday appropriated Jl 500 for a county exhibit at the Lewis and Clark centennial and appointed Fred Mellis, P. Basche and George W. Chandler a committee under the direction of the Citizen's League to superintend the gathering and placing of the exhibit. It is understood that if the county appropriation Is not sufficient for the purpose of making a creditable ex hibit the league will make up any de ficit necessary- Baker City Democrat. Rami Dill In F.iidorxt-d. The members of the bar of Baker City yesterday signed a petition en dorsing the bill to be introduced by Senator John L. Rand creating a separate judicial district of Baker county, which was sent to the legisla ture now In session. "With perhaps one or two exceptions every lawyer in the county signed the paper. It Is generally acknowl edged that Judge Kuklu Is very much overworked and there must be some relief to litigants, lawyers and Judges alike. A bill calling for direct primaries through out the state hus already been pre pared and will be lntr6duced in both the upper und lower houses of the legislature as soon as the smoke of the senatorial battle has cleared away. The bill Is now safely slowed away In the Inside pocket of Its backer. He will not allow hiB name to be divulged at present nor give the correspond ents an Inkling of the provisions or the measure, for fear that too much tmbllcitv ut this time will precipitate a strenuous opposition to It too early hi the game. Hut that It will be Introduced and that a hard fight will be made against It there is not the least doubt in the world. And It will require the finest sort of political diplomacy to get this measure spread on the statute books. It Is believed that one of the hard est fights of the session will be made against this bill. Washington MaW Daryinen. Olvmpla, Wash.. Jan. 19.
