"eve That Donations From French Peasants' IjiNir Were Unjust. Pendleton, Oct. 28. (Editor ( East Oregonlan.) You have embodied In your editorial page of Thursday a paper, which Is quite misleading In It tone. It 1 true that the present struggle between the Catholic church and France Is one of the leading Issues of international politics. That the Catholic church ha had great moral Influence In Prance la an undesirable fact But your writer needs not look alarmingly at the fact nor does he need alarm vm,. on that account Before doln it wa his duty to show that the general drift of that moral influence haa worked for evil; he haa done nothing of the kind. Even the great thlnkln TtlAn rt this. nation. Irrespective of their religious .eneis. wnen tney are brought to face the great problems and dangers that now confront us. are not slow In ex pressing their opinion: and their opinion Is that a lesrlnr i., ...... against our social dangers i tha Co.k olic church with Its moral Influence. Mark Hanna stood before President McKinley shortly before the i,.t,. was laid low by the assassin's hnnd. and told him his honest opinion In these words: "Mr. President, the. two things which alone will eventual ly enable the United Slates to ride In safety the social storms ihul nr. nnn. threatening us: the one Is the Integ rity or tne supreme court, the other Is the moral force of the rnthr.iin church." I don't see whv vnup utKoi. It a triumph that education has been wrested from the Cathniin phnr.h i France, and handed over to a system that Is distinctively antagonistic to God and religion. It were n triumph could he show that said system has turned out and does turn out more learned and upright men and women than the Catholic church has tnrned out. Or does your writer call it n trinmnh that the French government hus vio lently taken millions and millions of dollars from private schools, dollars that belong by every right to said pri vate schools, when education was wrested from the Catholic church ir such be the trtumnhs of it pmocrncv God save our land from such Bemoc- raejr. Why should said writer speak bitter language against the fact that dona tions were made from time Immemor ial to Institutions of learning in France? Why does he call that a graft? Does he call Carnegie's library donations a graft? Does he call the large donations given by jrabllc mlnded men to the institutions of learning In hi country a graft? Suppose an unprincipled lot of men were to possess themselves of the leg islature and administrative sent of this nation, and enact and carry -out a law by which all those donations free ly given and lawfully possessed, were to pass to other hands, would said writer call that a triumph of democ racy. Such donations made by the French neooie from time Immemoriut nra nnw being forcibly taken from their rlght- rui owners by the French govern ment, and this act Is culled hv voiir writer "a master stroke of the great campaign of freedom." A. T.'TKIVELLI. S. J. Tlie Orl glnal Remedy that "kill the Dandruff Germ." suMik,jiwrr' THE HUNTERS CAME TOO LATE ! THEIR FAITHFVl, DOG HAS POINTED OCT THE TRl'E REMEDY TO PREVENT BALDNESS, BUT THE HUNTERS CAME TOO LATE CHRONIC BALDNESS IS INCURABLE. HERPICIDK A "HAIR-SAVER." Xewbro'a Herplclde saves the hair by destroying tne germ or microbe that is known to be the cause of dandruff, falling hair and baldness. . In chronic bald ness the hnlr falllcles are completely trophled, causing tne acalp to shrink and shine; little can be done In such cases except to save the remaining "fringe." and this Is well worth saving, for It offers some protection against tne cold. The "Hair Grower" is a fallacy. It requlrea but a slight knowledge of anatomy to know that the hair gets Its life and strength from the halr-papllla at the bot tom of the hair follicle, and the papilla In turn gets Its nourishment direct from the blood; therefore, na ture Is the only true hair grower. There are enemies of hair growth that cause hair loss and baldness. In visible microblc growths enter the sebaceous glands, situated at the top of the hair follicles (Dr. Sabouraud of Paris, says the microbe usually enters the scalp In youth.) where one colony after another is established, until finally, after months and sometimes years, there is dandruff, Itching scalp and falling hair. The Sebum a Iho solidifies, causing dry, lustre less and brittle hair. Destroy this mierobic growth with Newbro's Herplclde. and protect the hair against reinfection, and It will grow as nature Intended. Newbro's Herplclde is a twentieth century remedy. Its mission Is to teach new rules for scalp cleanliness, new rules for hnlr preservation, and to supply a germ destroying solution that will enable careful persons to have beautiful and luxuriant hair. Almost marvelous results follow the use of Herplclde, and If It does not do more than we claim for It, your dealer will refund your purchase price. As a hair dressing It is truly exquisite, on account of Its dainty and refreshing odor, which I characteristic. It contains no oil, grease or sedimentary substance, neither does It stuly nor dye the hair. Stops Itching of the scalp almost Instanlly. IMMEDIATE RESULTS. "I had not used half the contents of a bottle of Her plclde before I noticed my hair was not falling out so badly and the terrible itching had stopped after the third treatment. "Los Angeles, Cal. . (Signed.) MRS. DR. BISPHAM." TROMINENT DOCTOR SAYS. "I am very much pleased to state that I used Herplclde for myself, and found It very easy of application: a quality not possessed by ointments. It proved to be a very satisfactory remedy for dandruff." (Signed) EDWIN MERILL, M. D., Los Angelea, Cal. F. W. Schmidt.
