Eugenie Platzoeder, the little daughter of Conrad Platzoeder, fell from the high walk on Jackson street, across the river, and was pretty badly shaken up. She in some way lost her footing and fell about six feet, striking on her face, caus ing her to bite her tongue nearly In two. One tooth was broken, out, and the little lady was otherwise batter ed up. She Is doing nicely, however, but is unable to talk. Graduate Optician. A Season of Rejoicing and Spiritual Progress for the Sunday School Workers Attendance Is Increas Ing Steadily Attention Is Called to the Very Interesting Program for This Evening and Tomorrow. A large audience greeted A. A. Morse, of Portland, at the Christian church last night when he addressed the convention on the subject of the "Great Merger." The address was a very strong one and was listened to with great Interest by those present. During the day the convention worked steadily, and somo very good addresses were made and plans pointed out for the better conduct of the work of the schools. This evening Rev. J. W. Jenkins, of Athena, will sneak on !ho unhlnpt of "The Sunday School as a Re- tormer," ana will be followed by A. F. Flegel, of Portland, who will take the subject "Does It Pav?" Fireman Turned Down. George La Rose, one of the oldest firemen on the mountain division of the O. R. & N.. at Ia Grande, was turned down on the physical exami nation this week, on account of the weakness of one eye. La Rose had been firing on the Short Lino and tae O R. & N. fr tl,e naBt elgllt years' and never noticed auy difference in the strength of his eyes. On the test at La Grande It was found that the sight of one of his eyes was deficient. He was retired from road service and Immediately given a lucrative position as stationary engineer in the roundhouso. Scouring Mills Consolidate. J. M. Joe Hlnkle left this morning for Walla Walla to attend the funeral or Charles D. Huson. who died in California and will be brought to that city for burial. Rev. J. H. Barton, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Union, left for his home last evening. Ho is a newly elected member of the board of trustees of Pendleton Academy. Twenty Dollars Reward.
