Manager Geddes says that they have
this winter also secured a largo
quantity of logs which were decked
In tho camps ready for hauling to
the railroad as soon as the season
opens and there are plenty of logs on
band for present use.
Tho mills will be started in two
weeks, as tho yards are now too wet
with melting snow and rain to handle
the business satisfactorily. Last
year the mills reopened March 17.
The mills have a capacity of lOO.Oul)
feet of lumber a day. Baker City

Was Sumpter's First Mayor.
It wns stated by several of the
papers that I- N. Blowers, recently
nppolnted deputy United States mar
shal in the place of Al Roberts, was
formerly a resident of Sumpter. Up
on diligent Inquiry, however, the
morning paper failed to find any con
firmation of the statement. For its
benefit, also to show the brand ot
"inquiry" In -which this alleged
newspaper deals, and for the purpose
of Identifying Mr. Blowers, The Min
er gives the facts in the case.

consisted of 45 hogs, 351 sheep ana

During the week the cattle showed n

made In quotations. A shortage in
the supply of hogs caused an advance
