J Address of President Hardy, One of the Features of the Day Early Ad journment Taken to Permit Vlsltiis to Take Excursion to the Bay. San Francisco, Cal.. Oct. 21. When the 29th annual meeting of the Amor lean Bankers' Association was called to order at 10 o'clock this morning by President Caldwell Hardy, of Nor folk, Va.. the auditorium of tho Cali fornia treatro was filled with mem bers of the association, while tho offi cers and oxecutivo council occupied seats on the stage. Tho ladles who ramo to tho con vention occupied the boxes. Mayor Schmltss welcomed the association to tno city of San Francisco, and Gov ernor Pardee assured the visitors of California's hearty welcome. Hon. James D. Phelan, speaking for tho San Francisco bankers, also greeted tho memuers. President Hardy, in his annual ad dress, discussed questions of vital im portance to the association. President Hardy spoke for half an hour and his address was tho feature of tho ses sion. Tho next halt hour was devoted to routine business, several reports being road and accepted. An early ad journment was taken to permit the visitors to take an excursion on tho bay as guests of the local committee. Tho address of President Hardy was optimistic In tho extreme. He sees nothing but prosperity ahead for the government mid peace for both labor and capital. Temporary clouds in the industrial horizon will soon pass over nnd tho groat manufacturing centers of tho East will arise from tho transient lethargy. Imposed by labor difficulties and tho volume of money will swell as tho business of tho country ex pands. Very little reference was made to me coming financial legislation to bo enacted by congress.
