PORTLAND VITAL STATISTICS. Births Exceed Deaths by Six in the Month of September. During the month of Septembnr there were 1119 births and 103 deaths In the city of Portland a gain of only six In the native horn population. In September 1902 the denths ex ceeded the births by 20. Among the different occupations. represented in the birth list, common laborers came first with 19, clerks second with Hi, merchants next with seven, teamsters following with five, and farmers, dairymen, saloon keep ers and firemen with three each. The members of the barber ex amining hoard returned to Portland last night. They exqected to con duct a number of examinations last evening nfter the trains were nil In, but only one applicant came. This gentleman was from Rlgin. He passed n good examination and wns granted a certificate.
