The members of the Sovereign Grand Lodge, 200 In number, and the women representing the Order of Tlebel;ah, wero escorted from headquarters at the Hotel Hen nert to the temple by the Patriarchs Militant. Ky.( grand chaplain of the Sot-' erclgn Grand Lodge, began the oxer clsos with prayer. .Edward Rossman, of Ualtlmore, chairman of tho exec utlve committee of the grand lodge of Maryland, then announced Gover nor Smith, who welcomed tho grand lodge and members of tho Rcbeknh branch in behalf of tho state. The other speakers Included Edward Rossman, grand master for tho grand lodge of Maryland; Adrian Hughes, grand patriarch, for the grand encampment, and Ilepartment Commander George W. Godmon, of the Patriarchs Militant. Grand Sire J. H. Goodwin, of Ai lantn, Ga., responded and the exer cises were at an end. The members of the Sovereign Grand Lodge then marched to the Odd Fellows' Temple, where their secret deliberations were begun. Grand Sire Goodwin spoke of the movement to institute lodges of the order in South Africa and also re ported that a request had been re ceived for the admission of a grand representative from the Patriarchs Militant branch of the order.
