SpaMlnc, Idaho, April 21. The tak ing of testimony In the preliminary examination of George Campbell of Spalding, charged with burglary, was held Saturday. Judge Reese will nn nounce his decision later. Charles ParriBh, who was arrested for the same offense, waived examination and Is also being held to await the decision of the court. There is considerable excitement here over these arrests, and rumors are current that a number of war rants have been Issued for other men who are suspected of being Implicat i.i in n mimhpr nr hiirclaries and Itheils which nave occurreu nere wr- S ing Uie past few months. It Is snld an organized band of thieves and burglars Is in existence, with Par- i rlsh at the head, anti tnat numurnuB depredations can lie traced to the or I ganlzatlon. I The present arrests resulted from I the theft of 610 pounds of hams and bacon from Joseph Zivcr. A month before this, about the same amount had been stolen from C. T. Strana han, who had been keepln close watch of Parrish and some other men. When the Ziver burglary and theft occurred Mr. Stranahan explained his suspicions and on Thursday night It being learned that Parish had driven out of town, the officers at Lewlston were warned and captured parish as he was delivering the meat sto.'en from Zlver. WORK ON THE GOLCONDA. Coleswc ;rthy CHOP AMI 127 and 129 Ea tAltaStrwt A Long Tunnel Being Driven Under Big Body of Ore Great Shoot of Ore. The Sumpter American, of the 18th Inst., has the following to say of the Golconda mine and the work being done thereon: It is not generally known that the Wide West claim, adjoining the south end line of the Golconda claim, be longing to the Golconda company, has never been explored, although all of the outcrop of the big lode on the Golconda property occurs on the for mer claim. On the Golconda claim, where is found all of the develop ment work heretofore done on this property, there Is no outcrop what ever, while the boldest and the best body of surface quartz on the great lode" is found on the Wide West, standing forth prominently through out almost the entire length of this claim. It was this great outcrop of mineralized quartz, showing good sur face values, that first attracted the mining men of the district to the values of this ground. This outcrop, occurring on the apex of the hill, could ( not be explored by tunnel without driving through the Golcon da claim, to the north end line of the Wide West At the present time the Golconda management Is Just entering upon this important stage of development Dur ing the past year It has developed to the south of any ore disclosed by the former management, two good ore shoots one of them being the best in values, longest and widest of any ore shoot heretofore disclosed by this or any other company operating the proporty. This has quickened the conclusion formed because of the outcrop, that the best part of the Gol conda mine might yet be revealed In the Wide West claim, under the outcrop mentioned. Accordingly, de velopment has been pushed In that di rection as speedily as the same could be done, and in the meantime continue development or the ore bodies heretofore disclosed near the shaft on the tunnel level is now past the south center end-stake or the Gol conda and is entering West Side ground, and within 200 or 300 feet of the present face of this tunnel the great outcrop will he reached. Fair values are being obtained from this drift as work progresses, the manage ment stating that the vein is better In place, the walls are more clearly defined, and the gangue or better ap pearance that at any other point since leaving the big ore shoot on mis icvei some 200 feet back, and that confi dently expect great results from this new line of development. If ex perience gained by development In oher mines of this district Is borne out in this Instance, the largest and best ore shoots ever discovered in the Wide West claim, as every good pro ducer has found Its richest and larg est ore bodies under the most prom inent groups. The Golconda has driven the 400 level to within 3U feet as far south from the shaft as the face of the tun nel level drift described. It is the in tention to finish the development work under the outcrop by means of this has located and demonstrated the tunnel level drift first, and after the ore bodies there, drop down to the 400 level of the shaft and push that drift under the Bame shoots with all possible speed. This new line of development work will in no wise curtail the develop ment of the ore shoots heretofore disclosed In the Golconda claim, as work will be continued at points there with the same vigor as before. The great shoot of ore exposed on the tun nel level, which was first encountered about the beginning of this year and has been proved Tor a length or 250 feet and for a width of six to eighteen feet, continues Just as good In the stopes as onth o tunnel level where first located, and holds forth Indica tions of holding out to grass roots, a distance of 160 feet above the high est present stope. Assays taken across eight feet and for a distance of 70 feet In the highest part of the stope Thursday, gave an average value of $54.40. This Is the shoot that is also opened on the 100 level, and the 150 level, and Is being driven for on the levels below. TO SETTLE DISPUTED POINTS. Michael Malley, Saloon Man, Arrested On Charge of Indecent Exposure, Says Policeman Burton Handled Him Roughly and Stepped on Him Jury Can Not Agree. Wallace. Idaho. April 21. Night of ficer Durton Is having trouble or his own these days. He was tried before a Jury in Probate Judge Rlddlo's court Saturday afternoon on the charge or battery, the complaining witness being Michael Malley. whom the officer arrested Thursday even ing on the charge of Indecent expos ure. The jury failed to agree and a new trial will be given the officer a week from next Wednesday. In the case or Officer Burton Mr. Malley testified that while he was in the Ryan hotel on Thursday evening Burton followed him into the build lug. "When the officer came in," said Mr. Malley, "he accused roe or being guilty of the charge ou which I was arrested. I said to him that if I was guilty why did he not arrest me. The officer said. 'Well, d n it. I will arcst you.' He took me by the col lar, pushed me to the door and threw me. face first, onto the sidewalk as hard as he could throw me. When I was down he stepped on me. He then took me to the city jail." Burton testified that the arrest was nothing but a usual arrest and that he had no been violent. Other wlU nesses testified that Malley had been drinking. It is understood that the Jury took three ballots and that each time they were three ror "guilty" and three ror acquittal. Alabama Sunday Schools. Huntsvllle, Ala., April 21. CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT AND RESULTS A crew of men have been constantly ut work ever since wo acquired this property and tbe Glasgow crosscut Las now encountered and fully crosscut tbe ledge. In this; ciosscut Ave have ojK;ned tip a body of tire sixteen feel In width carrying: good commercial values. In sraenkinp of commercial values we mean 'res vb'.cb have a sufficient value lo pay for the extraction milling and all other incidental expeures thereto, with cm ugh of a margin left over to pay good dividends to the s-oekholders. This large body of ore was not in the nature of a surprise, we simply expected it, as tbe surface develop ments showed this same large body of ore, and there was no reason why it should not be encountered in this cross cut and at this depth. FUTURE DEVELOPMENT We are now turning to drift on the ledge to the west from the ero.cut in order that, we may ojien up tbe richer cies at a greater depth which are found on the surface throughout the Bannockburn claim. This line of development, we believe, will prove very iuleresting to all who are interested, or may become inter cited in the Highland mine, as it will certainly open up ore bodies rich in quality and in large quantities. It will demonstrate that the Highland will rank as one of the largest producers in the district. From now on the development work will lie com paratively easy and not very expensive, as we will be drifting along the ledge where the ground is much easier io work than in the country rock which encases tbe vein. Ta cit mouth will show a largo increase in our ore reserves. FREE TRIP TO THE HIGHLAND To any one who wishes to invest a reasonable sum of money in the Highland mine, we will pay all traveling e;cense to and from the mine for the purpose of his making a personal examination. In offering you a free trip to the Highland we feel that this is proof within itself of the value of this prop erty as it stands to reason that if wc di dnot have a good mine there and all that we claim for jt we could not offer ( such an inducement. We would lie only too glad to have each and every on- who contemplates the investment of money in mines, c me out and look over this property and "the district in general. In offering to pay your expenses out here and back we feel that wc are not running any risk whatsoever as we know positively that no one, no matter how great or conoervative an expert or mining engineer be may be, could possibly, roughly speaking, "turn it down." POOL YOUR INTERESTS If you have not sufficient money yourself to justify you in coming to the Highland to look it over before in verting, we would suggest that you and your friends make up a small pool and send one of your number out here to look over the Highland. In this way we believe you v i uld get absolute information as to tbe value of the prop erty you invest your money in, and you will also have fl'i opportunity to learn all about the reputation, standing' and ability of the directors of the Highland Ciiiiiptuy. OUR REFERENCE Wo take pleasure in referring you to any bank, to; it tss man, or mining man in our own eonununity.
