In the mean time the same proposition made to Pendleton has been laid before the people of Athena. Athena has been bidding for the factory and W. G. HIgby went to that city today to lay the proposition before those interested. The sawmill at this place is now running in full blast with Peter Vlebroch as general manager. D. E. Coombs is head sawyer, lxn Down edger, and M. E. Sturdivant, engineer. One hundred and forty-four head of cattle left here last week for the Sound, 110 head of these belonging to Fred Martin and 34 head to J. Terry. The price paid for these cat tle was $3.75 per hundred delivered In Pendleton. They were purchased by J. C. Lonergan for the Pacific Meat Company at Tacoma. More freight is going over the roads between Pendleton and the John Day this fall than ever before, but the most valuable loads to pass through here on its way to Pendleton went through Friday nlghL These were four-horse loads of ore irotn the Badger mine. The ore was concen trated and sacked in 125-pound sacks. The total value of the Vw loads was $8000. Each wagon contained two tons of the concentrates and the teamsters claim that the roads are good between Pendleton and the Su sanvlllo country. C. E. Hoover has leturned from tho Snokane fair.
