Drunkenness, Are Assisted to
La Grande, Sept, 12. Tho women
who havo been causintr tho city offle

on remaining in tho city, wero again
put in tho Jail Monday evening. Yes
terday morning Marshal Steinbeck
Invited Mayor Henry to go with him
to the lockup and see the prisoners,
but when they arrived nt tho Jail
they found that tho fair ones had
taken French leave. Some one on the
outside had broken the doors off and
allowed them to escape. Early in
tho night two men had gone to the
jail and created a disturbance by yell
ing unci burning papers in tho hall,
and it is thought that thoy aro, tho
parties who helped the women to
escape. Tho women and two men
were seen early yesterday morning
walking on the railroad track in the
direction of Hllgard. The women's
trunks aro now at tho depot platform
awaiting Instructions from the own
ers. Tho women were found under
the "Tin Can" in a beastly state of
intoxication just prior to their arrest
and they were still drunk when last
seen going to Hllgard.

when ho was transferred to North
