He can be addressed, "E," care this office. The Misses Sommervllle returned Sunday evening from a visit to rela tives and friends in Athena. Miss Rena Kirk, daughter of A, O. Kirk, of Athena, accompanied them home, and will visit here for some time. E. T. Wade, the real estate dealer, closed two deals today. He sold for Mrs. Ella Harrison lot 13 In block 223, to J. P. Ford and the east half of lots 1 and 2, in block 222, to Mrs. M. Mathews, for Mrs. V E. Houston. John L. Huson and Miss Daisy Hof ner were married at the parlors of the Golden Rule hotel Saturday after noon by County Judge Hartman. Mr. Huson and bride are -Helix young people and have a wide circle ot friends who offer congratulations. William Jr., the 3-months-old child of Mr. and Mrs. William Valandlng- ham, died last evening at their home, 520 Johnson street. The funeral was held this morning at the family home and the little one Interred in the 01 ney cemetery at 10 o'clock today. Bruce Wallace has returned from Michigan and will make his future home in this city. He was formerly in Pendleton, and returned to his old home, but not liking his native state, as well as Oregon, returned here with the declaration that he was going to stay. George Van Dran, of the Hotel Pen dleton; Robert McClure, of Krassig1 barber shop; Jesse Shull and John Word returned Sunday from the mountains, where they have been hunting and fishing. They report plenty of birds, such as grouse, and fishing to bo good. Mr. Shull also killed two deer on the trip. A. C. Funk haB received a letter from Prof. George W. Dowrie, former ly connected with the Pendleton academy. Stating that he was now en gaged in teaching in the Illinois In stitute for blind people, at Jackson ville. Ho stated that he was getting along nicely and was well pleased with his new home and work. Prof. Dowrie spent the summer in Chicago. Scott, of Helix, was in Pen dleton Saturday. "Wife and I will visit the old home in Missouri," said Mr. Scott. "My wheat is in the warehouse and most of it is sold. I have a section of wheat land near Helix. I put half of it in wheat each year and summer following the other half, alternating each year. My son owns a half sec tion next mine, He had his half sec tion all In wheat this year. The half section I had In wheat with his halt section yielded 8400 sacks. The sacks will run more than two bushels to the sack so we estimated we have about 18,000 bushels. I have just sold 3400 sacks or my half of the grain for $4012. This leaves me about 1500 bushels of wheat yet to dispose of. My wife and I think we have earned a vacation so we are go lng east. We start for Davis county, Missouri in about a week. "I came to Oregon in 18C0. When I first came here I engaged in pros pecting and mining and later in freighting. Forty years ago I Bpent some time in lewlstoii, Idaho. Al that time it was a mining camp, a mere city of tents. Our only law was the law of the six-shooter, but we goc along pretty amicably nevertheless. I have lived on my present mop. erty near Helix for the past 23 years. My wife has not boen east since 1845. She was a haby when she came here 57 years ago. We are going to visit our old homes in Illinois for both of us are natives of that state. Oregon suits us pretty well, we are Just going back to revisit the scenes of oui childhood."
