Wish to Discuss With He and the Other Railway Magnates Questions of Deep Interest to Both the Rail ways and the Farmers. Walla Walla, Aug. 1. An effort Is now being made to secure a confer ence in this city between the presi dents of the great railroad companies and the farmers, similar to the pro posed meetings at Davenport and Col fax next week. Yesterday a petition was circulated and freely signed, ask ing that the railroad men .meet the farmers in this city. The petition was addressed to Presidents Hill, Mellen and Mohler. In substance, it asks: "In view of the fact that arrange ments have been made for a meeting between yourselves and the farmers of the Big Bend and Palouse coun tries, we; the undersigned; - farmers, fruitgrowers and cattlemen , of. . the Walla Walla Valley, desire to be fa vored with a visit from you to be held at Walla Walla, at some time as may best suit your convenience. At this meeting we desire to have such conference as will best promote the mutual interests of both, the produc ers and yourselves. The conditions existing ' in the country, south of Snake River make our interests more diversified than any other section of the "state of Washington. And it is to present those interests to you, and aid in mutual benefit without the interfer ence of designing politicians, that we desire this meeting." The outcome of the movement will be watched with interest. Meetings will be held at Davenport on Mon day and at Colfax on Tuesday of next week, and it is hoped that .a meeting can be had here Wednesday. Jorin Dooley Dtfad. John 'Dooley, one of the wealthiest men in Walla Walla, died yesterday, aged 70 years. Mr. Dooley had re sided in Walla Walla county contin uously for 45 years and had' accumu lated a fortune In land and property of every sort. Mr. Dooley was an Irishman, hav ing immigrated from his native soil to Canada. In 1858 he was engaged in surveying the international boun dary line between the United States and British Columbia, when he made his first trip to this section and de termined to locate here. In an early day he engaged in stock-raising, later in the butcher business, and still later in lands. For a number of years he has been practically Vetired, Last winter lie was troubled with a corn and attempted to treat the Irrlr tating spot with a, razor. The treat ment was too severe, It seems, and blood poisoning set in, from which trouble he never recovered, his death being due largely to that-cause. Mr. Dooley and his family have been prominent ip this city for many years, especially In Catholic circles. He leaves a widow and four children. New,;SuperJiitendent of Choctaw.
