Milton, Or., Aug. 1. The new, but strong and energetic camp of Wood men of the World is planning for a local log-rolling this fall, when a large accession of members is ex pected. No definite action has been taken yet, beyond appointing a com mittee to take initial steps and re port on possibilities, but it is decid ed to have a big initiation event of some description. The committee consists of H. F. Brown, J. E. Nichols, Dr. Hayes, L. B. Hogan and G. Winclcler. The affair will probably come off in September. All Were Saved. Jackson in taking charge of the Portland Jour nal, now the Oregon Daily Journal, the Baker City Democrat remarks: "Sam Jackson, of Pendleton, who has controlled the East Oregonian for so, many years with much well merit ed success, has purchased the Port land Journal. It's a good thing. Every body who knows Sam Jackson and who knows the Journal is glad of it. People who know these elements and are on the Inside of the Oregon news paper field and who also know that John E. Lathrop is to be editor of the rejuvenated Journal will be doubly glad. " 'Paraphrasing what Rip Van Winkle said when he took another highball, 'Here's to Sam Jackson; may ho live long and prosper!' " Klne's Grove Sunday. Peter Smith, the genial proprietor of the picnic grounds at Klne's grove, has annonuced that the dances will hereafter be discontinued on Sat urday evening. So many people are In the mountains, and one evening during this hot weather being all people care to dance, has caused the change. Mr. Jack sop is an editor of ability, and if anybody can make the Journal go, it is believed he will. He has the best wishes of a growing constituency. D. Kemler has leased the north room in the postoffice, where he will have his office for the settlement of accounts. He will be at this office, commencing August 4th, every day until August 15th, and all persons in debted to him must call and settle by that date or the accounts will posi tively be placed in the hands of hlB attorney for collection. Several days ago he was work ing with a wood saw and ran a small splinter in his hand, near the ball of the thumb. The splinter was remov ed and gave him little inconvenience at the time, but the weather being hot and he continuing work, the wound developed poison and now he is compelled to carry his arm in a sling.
