Jonea arrived at their home in thta
city, and a few minutes later the

turned to grief and tears by a tele
graphic communication notifying her
of the death of her father, Mr. Isaac
Mansfield, aged 6 years, at lloauaim.
Wash., at 8 o'clock that morning. Mrs.
Jonos left on the evening train and
will return with the remains tomor
row. The funeral will take plabe in
tbia city, the deceased being an old
pioneer of this section, having reeided
here upward of 30 years. He leaves. be
sides his daughter, Mrs. Jones, two
brothers, B. F. and F. M. Mansfield,
both prosperous farmers residing near
tbia city. He also has numerous other
relatives in this vicinity, to all of
which the heartfelt svmpathy of a
large circle of friends t's extended in
this their hour of bereavement.
Oavid Love, who has been at home
in this city for a few days, left Thurs
day morning to join his partner, John
Santon, also of this city, to do assess
ment work on a quartz claim, recently
taken up bv them, 0 miles northwest
of Boise City, in the Boiae basin,
which baa the promise of being a pay

gold. This is a fine milling ledge, and
after this asaeasment work is done, if it
holds ui, Messrs. Love and Stanton will

Andrew J. Willaby, who lives three
and a half miles southwest of this
city, and who has 200 acres of wheat
this aeaaon, aaya his crops are looking
floe, he expects better results than for
years. He also savs that when the
crops are harvested it will be found
that the damage is nt.t so great in this
vicinity as at present looked for. He
think, the general average will be
from 32 to 38 bushels per acre. W. P,
Willaby, who resides one mile and a
half northeast of here, has IttO acres ol
wheat, which is claimed brail who
have aeen it to be the best crop in this
section, ud it is estimated that it
will grade No, 1 ami go over 40
bushels. Harvest will soon begin.

the night of Frnlav, July 12, at bis
apartments in Mrs. Stratum's pyOfftlgsj

made his home for the past ten years.

John Misell was born in West Vir
ginia on February 28, 18.N4, and was
therefore 47 years. 4 months and 12
davs old. He left his eastern home in
1M; and went tn Iowa. He came to
Umatilla county and l.H-attxl at Pen
dleton sIhiiiI 20 years ago. He engaged
in railroading and afterwards ba m .
a bartender, working for many well
known saloon men in this city. Includ
ing George larvean, of the Hotel t.
Gt-orge. K.I Horton, I'll irles Rami ml,
Frank Scheinpp, the Golden Rule
hotel, and for others. He haa been
suffering with consumption for ncarlv
a year, hut only gave up work about
seven months ago, and for a time was
at the Pendleton sanitarium, where he
at first improved, hut later kept get
ting worse and returned to his rooms,
where he died.
Poring these months of sickness the
Knights of Pythias of Pamon lodfO.
No. 4 paid him every attention and
made peaceful his closing days. The
deceased has a brother residing in
Kansas.

start with, that everybody was delight
ed with the performance. There were

crowd immediately. A hand concert
preceded the performance in the hig
tent, which was a treat for BOtU
lovers. The ring performance intro
duced th Karl Sifters, in thrilling
aerial (eats: the Tybells in tvolotiooi
on tbe lofty ladder; the six Bddyi,
whose acrobatic feats were wonderful ;
Miss Kdn , a beautiful and tlaring
perforrmer, and many others famous in
the ring, not to apeak of the clowns,
who kept the people in a r .r of
laughter from the opening tournament
to the hippodrome races. Altogether,
the performance is a kaleidoscope of
marvelous feats aud funny acts, aud
beyond dount is one of the best ever
seen in tbia city.
