Tlie Gold HUI News, Gold HU, Oregon Thursday, May 13, HIT THE GOLD HILL NEWS thing thoroughly. The difficulty is that under the present scheme of living we skim over Hie surface of many things and never reully learn one thing well. It is a pleas ure to talk to a man who bus com plete information on one thing whether that tiling is raising alfalfa hay, making horaeshoea or tanning hides. Not long ago a salesman was in this office who at one tune work ed for a milling company. For over an hour he talked about wheat. We had no idea that so much that Is interesting would he said about wheat. He hud made an intensive study of the subject and wus in teresting ami entertaining to tutk to because he knew one thing thor oughly. Established 1897 Published by Mac’s Printing Co. WALLACE G. One of the weaknesses of our type of government under the spoils system is that too often the men who are best qualified do not get the positions. The positions, many of them responsible ones, are given to perty workers and those who by one chance or another happen to have a contract with the pow ers that be. Hundreds of more qualified men never get a hearing because of their lack of political acquaintance. We n o e by our daily that mov ing picture people seldom colic, their salary cheeks. This is aiway done by an agent. The same servit < .s performed for a local w age earn er by his wife. Many states are revising and re vamping their driver’s laws in an effort to curb the mounting toll of traffic accidents. Some of the states require an examination of drivers from time to time. The difficulty is that the quality that makes for a poor or careless driver is difficulty to discover or discern. Some men are naturally alert and quick thinking and acting on the steering wheel.
