When you think of

occurred this past week in the De­
partment. Posture tests and in­
struction at Talent school was the
only deviation from the regular
schedule.
Some apprehension has been man­
ifested regarding two cases of In­
fantile
Paralysis reported and
while little is known about the ori­
gin of the disease, we do know it is
caused by a germ and is spread
one person to another. The best
advice is prevention—keep your
children clean and in a good phys­
ical condition as possible—keep
your child away from crowds and
homes where there is sickness.
Keep premises free from rubbish
and fleas. A child may be sick
with Infantile Paralysis for twenty-
four or seventy two hours, before
any signs of paralysis appear—the
disease usually starts like some oth­
er contagious, diseases—the child
that was perfectly well becomes
restless and drousy, is quite Irrit­
able—there may be vomiting or di­
arrhea, but constipation is the rule
—there may be headache-pains in
the muscles and stiff neck—fever or
convultions before paralysis. This
symptom may be very slight or en­
tirely absent but no matter how
mild the illness may seem—call
your doctor at once as by making
diagnosis before paralysis sets in,
it may be prevented by convales­
cent serum—and follow his instruc­
tions. Under no circumstances use
massage or rub the child until your
physician instructs you to. Many
cases have been permanently crip­
pled because this treatment was be­
gun too soon.
Your physician
knows best. Unless health officials
advise do not close schools.
