Subscription $2.00 a year in advance. Ad rate on application In England, this week the laboring people dominated the elections. There is enough laboring men in every country to do the same thing. The only reason why they don’t dominate the elections o£ the United States is be cause they are not properly organized to do so. However, with the tendency of the times, such as they are, a point will be reached when the laboring class will be forced tc take steps to undo the things which they have been in strumental in affecting. With the nation's weath rapidly accumulating in the hands of a few big business men, the destiny of the working man can easily be appreciated. Soon, the poorer class will find they have placed the pow er into the hands of a few who are now squeezing the life blood from them. When that time comes, they will resent it and start a reaction. The only hope is, that when that time comes, there will be a leader in charge who will bring about the reformation in a peaceful way. Better still, it would be a splendid idea for the common people of the nation to awaken before it is too late and as sert themselves—study the political conditions, the social conditions and the industrial conditions and start a reac tion, now, before it requires such drastic action. The huge combinations are powerful, they are overwhelming iji their influence. They can control men by their money and swfcy government officials and defeat justice and the cause of the common people is left unnoticed. There is a time coming, and not far off, when the people of the na tion will begin to wonder what was the matter with them a few years prior. The utilities are controlled by power ful companies whose principal incentive is the earning of dividends. They are gradually eliminating competition. The chain store is eating the heart out of the privately owned business and leaving otherwise prosperous com munities gasping for breath.. They have removed from the community its life blood, the money which should have been kept there to build with. We hope that the people of the United States, supposed to be the most enlightened of all nations will awaken to the dangers which are ahead of them before it is too late j| to ward off its coming, and save posterity from a crisis which should be unnecessary. ♦ ♦♦ Last week end the eastern part of the United States sweltered in the heat and many people died. Still we find those in this valley who kick just because their winter heavies still feel comfortable. Perhaps their trouble is, they have purchased some of those new fangled masculine combination suits and have not had an opportunity to try | them on yet. * * * A man in Omaha died of the shock when he came home and found that his wife had absconded with the family , savings and left with another man. In a case of that kind he should have felt as though it was worth the money to J lose the woman. ♦ ♦♦ Daily, men are tortured to death in the vicinity of Chi- ¡ cago. Crimes which are both gruesome and savage are being perpetrated right in the heart of our nation which would make a south sea savage shudder, and the govern- , ment turns not a hand. Yet they still maintain a division ¡ of fighting men in Nicaragua to protect the American in -' terests, there.
