Fictitious, boom, valuations will not I«« permitted. O nly a few days ago we noticed an item in an exchange headed: “Clean Up,’* and it looks good to us. We believe that there has been some such suggestion made in Gold Hill the past week. Why not have our mayor set some day and let everyone get out with whatever clean up utensil they possess and make our little city shine like a brand new dollar. We know one team ster who has signified his willingness to donate a day’s time with his team toward the work. The cleaning up can be done and the quicker we get busy the less time will be lost. We understand that the members of the Greater Gold Hill club had charge of «J„‘'m /h X b i will*?« this movement last year and made much success of the day. T he ri*i,,|y ‘ 'lfoiwii The most efficient administration that N ews moves that they try it on again and will be glad to boost experience, education amt capability, can exact, in every department of tins im the idea along. portant office, will lie elli■i-tcd. W hen you clean up, paint up, too. Paint your house, paint your barn, paint your fences. Good paint kills germs and makes the old plac? look like new—a credit to the city and its owner. Would you rather live in a clean city than a dirty one? Of course you would. So would your friends who come to visit you. Clean up. Every little touch of cleanliness makes the old place look like home. Now is the time to practice the art of spring cleaning. Don’t forget the old henhouse and the dark, dingy woodshed. A coat of whitewash will give it a pleasant look. If you start the movement your neighbor will do likewise. Try it. Cleanliness offers a solution for almost every sanitary prob lem. It will do more than anything else to solve the fly prob lem. Little flies and little children cannot dwell in the same habitation. If the first are not killed, the second probably will be. Why not make the cleanup movement a forerunner for the “Swat the Fly” campaign? Now is the time to do both. Flies are carriers of disease seed. They live and breed in all kinds of filth and infect food and drink by germ-laden feet. Each female fly can lay one hundred and fifty eggs, and should be kept out of all dwellings. Get a swatter and let the fly know you are ready for business. One swat may make quite a showing if done in time. Common borax, dissolved in hot water, is recommended as a remedy to be poured over manure piles and compost heaps. It kills the eggs and helps to keep down the fly pest.
