Mere’» to a Song ia the Rain
Man wants but little here out west.
But he wants that little long;
A good long slicker, a rubber vest,
A rainproof helmet that slopes south
west.
Some right tight shingles above his
nest.
And down in his heart a song.
A song to the dhill from the Cas
cade’s top.
And the warm, wet kiss from the
sea;
The trailing clouds with their skirts
a-sop,
,
Heaven's dew-dripped curtains that
drip and drop.
The valley fogs with their silver slop
And the drip of the damp hr tree."
Then here’s to the back of the can
vas duck
And the tree toad’s moist refrain;
And here's to the man that keeps his
pluck,
Though wet to the waist and stalled
in the mack;
Who neier gets soggy or down on
his luck.
The soul that can sing in the rain.

“There's no use for you town folks

Still, the game warden cannot molest

iugs resulting from that accumulation. The man has re
spected the law in accumulating the money. Ex post facto
laws should not apply to property in whatever form that
cannot he denied him in any process short of confiscation.”
The above, quoted from a recent interview of John
D. Rockefeller, was intended, so it is alleged, as an argu
ment against the income tax. We can’t tefl what the last
sentence means, but the rest of it, if it is an argument
against anything, is an argument against any form of
txation whatever. But isn’t it amusing to hear this pious
old man talk of legal honesty and accumulating money
within the law ! Something seems to suggest to him that
the people think they have an excuse for attem pting to
recover some of their contributions to the Standard Oil
Company. If they do attem pt it, we dare say it will be in
v “ legally honest wav.’’
