Merkley, Wyden: Over $3.2 Million
in Federal Funds to Address
Domestic Violence and Expand
Services for Survivors
Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden
announced a total of $3,282,231 in federal grants to
help protect Oregonians from domestic violence and
stalking and to support survivors.
“All of us want to feel safe in our homes and as we
go about our lives, and these grants will help pro-
tect more Oregonians from domestic violence,” said
Merkley. “I’ll continue working to secure resources
that provide safety, support, and protection for peo-
ple in these situations.”
“The awful threat of domestic violence undermines
the safety of far too many households and commu-
nities in Oregon and nationwide,” Wyden said. “I’m
glad Grant and Clatsop counties as well as the state
have earned these federal funds to reduce the risks of
these crimes, and I’ll keep battling to secure similar
resources throughout Oregon.”
$1,949,897 to Oregon Department of Justice — STOP
Formula Grant Program
The STOP Formula Grant Program encourages
partnerships between law enforcement, prosecution,
courts, and victim services organizations to enhance
victim safety and hold offenders accountable in cases
of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault,
and stalking.
$636,815 to Grant County, $695,519 to Clatsop Coun-
ty — Rural Program
“Survivors are often told that they will need to go to
Portland—over 2 hours one way—in order to receive
care because there isn’t a qualified medical profes-
sional available at either hospital in Clatsop County.
This funding and partnership will help ensure that
sexual assault survivors have 24/7 access to trau-
ma-informed, confidential forensic and medical ex-
ams, including access to medical providers that speak
Spanish, and LGBTQIA+ affirming care,” said Terri
Steenbergen, Executive Director of The Harbor.
Legacy Health Offers Free
Monkeypox Vaccination Clinic on
Saturday, Sept. 24
VANCOUVER, Wash. — This Saturday, Sept. 24, Leg-
acy is offering a free monkeypox vaccination clinic at
our Legacy Medical Group Family Wellness. Legacy
is following guidelines set by the U.S. Centers for Dis-
ease Control and Prevention and is only able to offer
the vaccine to people who fit the guidelines as high-
risk patients.
“It’s important that we use all the tools at our dis-
posal to slow the progression of monkeypox virus
infections in our communities,” said Nick Kashey,
M.D. Clinical Vice President of Population Health for
Legacy Health. “Legacy Health is proud to offer an op-
portunity for our high-risk community members and
neighbors to get vaccinated against monkeypox this
weekend.”
High-risk patients are defined by the U.S. Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention as:
• Gay, bisexual, and other men or trans people who
have sex with men, who have had more than one
sexual partner in the past 14 days.
• Sex workers of any sexual orientation or gender
identity.
• Persons who have had close contact within the past
14 days with someone with suspected or confirmed
monkeypox.
• Persons who had close contact with others at a ven-
ue or event or within a social group in the past 14
days where a suspected or confirmed monkeypox
case was identified.
If any of the above apply to a patient who is at least
18 years old, they can schedule their vaccination now
at https://legacyhealth.org/mpv/. Anyone who can’t
schedule online can book an appointment by calling
503-415-4800 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
