February 22, 2017 The Skanner BLACK HISTORY EDITION Page 9 Black History ‘The Power of Our Presence’ Exhibit Celebrates the 10-Year Anniversary of the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards” NEW YORK--(BUSI- NESS WIRE) — Essence, the preeminent brand for African-American wom- en, and the Paley Center for Media are excited to announce “ The Power of Our Presence — An Exhi- bition Celebrating the 10- Year Anniversary of the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards. The exhibit will com- memorate the 10th anni- versary of Essence’s es- teemed Black Women in Hollywood Awards —the annual Oscar-week lun- cheon at the forefront of spotlighting Holly- wood’s most creative and accomplished visionar- ies. A private opening reception for the exhibit will took place Feb. 7. The exhibit, a highlight of this year’s Black His- tory Month celebration at the Paley Center, is set to feature costumes from the lead female charac- ters from each of their hit television series, in- cluding one of the iconic white coats worn by Ker- ry Washington in “Scan- dal,” Tracee Ellis Ross ’s scrubs from “Black-ish” and a costume from Tara- ji P. Henson ’s “Cookie Lion” of Empire. Archived memorabilia, photos and footage from the luncheon’s nine-year history will be on display, including re-creations of the event’s extraordi- nary tablescapes, images from past honorees, spe- cial video messages from “ Hollywood.” “We are so honored to partner with Essence in presenting this power- ful exhibit in support of its special milestone anniversary,” said Mau- reen J.
