Page 8 The Skanner December 30, 2015 Queen of Rosaria Kahedja Burley was crowned Queen of Rosaria Saturday at Memorial Coliseum. Burley, a 17-year-old Jefferson High School student and the daughter of Mashavu Hicks and Rondale Burley, plans to attend a four-year university outside of Oregon to study marketing. PHOTO BY SUSAN FRIED A film screening of “The Wake of Vanport” drew a full house at the North Portland Library on May 10. The film was produced through the 2014 Vanport Multimedia Project, dedicated to collecting and preserving stories from those who survived the 1948 flood. After the screening there was an opportunity to speak with survivors and producers of the piece. The work was made possible by The National Endowment for the Humanities Fund of the Library Foundation. The strike delayed the start of the school year by six days.
