The New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH), which is operating the hotline nationwide as part of a USDA National Hunger Clearing- house contract, has just launched a coast-to-coast outreach campaign to increase the use of the hotline. 2015 Grand Marshals Washington County Cooperative library Services Kicks Off Summer Reading From June 1 through August, the public libraries in Wash- ington County will offer four unique summer reading programs designed for pre-readers, youth, teens and adults. This summer WCCLS brings three high-energy and zany performers – Alex Zerbe, Professional Zaniac, Angel Oca- sio, Komedy 4 Da Kidz and the Border College International K-9 Team — to each of it 15 libraries. The Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS), includes the: Banks Public Library, Beaverton City Library, Beaverton City Library @ Murray Scholls, Cedar Mill Community Library, Cedar Mill Community Library @ Bethany, Cornelius Public Library, Forest Grove City Library, Garden Home Community Library, Hillsboro Public Libraries (Main and Shute Park), North Plains Public Library, Sherwood Public Library, Tigard Public Library, Tualatin Public Library, and West Slope Community Library. This year the Rose Festival salutes women in leadership by honoring the two women who have served in the State of Oregon’s top elected role — Governors Barbara Roberts and Kate Brown — as Grand Marshals of the 2015 Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade Saturday (beginning at 10 a.m. June 6). The Rose Festival salutes the leadership and statesmanship of these two historic women, who have helped make Oregon such a great state to live and visit. Governor Roberts served a four-year term from 1991-95. Kate Brown became Oregon’s 38th Governor in February, having served as Secretary of State since 2008. Toll-Free hunger hotline Enables Struggling Oregonians to Access local Food help One in six (15.2 percent) Oregon residents live in house- holds that can’t always afford enough food, but the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds a toll-free hotline to make it easier for them to access food from both CityFair Continues private and governmental resources. The National Hunger Hotline staff connects callers with emergency food providers in their community, government assistance, nutritional assistance programs, and various services that promote self-sufficiency. During summer months, the hotline provides information about meal sites where children 18 years old and under can get free, nutri- tious meals through the USDA Summer Food Service The final weekend of CityFair starts on Wednesday, June 3, with an afternoon of free food and beverage samples for CityFair Sampler (FREE with admission). Fleet Week is a highlight this weekend with ships from the US Navy, US Coast Guard, and Canadian Maritime Forces along the waterfront sea wall, and the amazing all-floral float cre- ations from the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade will line Naito Parkway on Saturday afternoon and Sunday for up-close viewing, punctuating a rosy end to Rose Festi- val Waterfront activities.
