Tickets to We Day are earned by students through the year-long We Act program, where schools take on one global and one local action and then report back to Free the Children to get tickets to the event. We Day Seattle included appearances by members of the Seattle Sounders, the Seahawks, Apollo Ono and performances by lennon and Maisey, The head and the heart, Mustafa the Poet and many others. A searchable list of local markets that may accept the vouchers can be found on the Washington State Farmers Market Association at www.wafarmersmarkets.com. Bicycle Sundays Start May 3 Along lake Washington Blvd. Free Child Car Seat Check-up Events in king County May is Bike Month, and we’re celebrating by kicking off the 50th anniversary series of Bicycle Sundays on May 3. During Bicycle Sundays, a portion of Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed to motorized vehicles from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Seattle Parks and Recreation invites everyone in the community to bike, jog or stroll along the boulevard between the Seward Park entrance and Mount Baker Park’s beach during these times. The 2015 event dates are: May 3, 17, 31; June 21, 28; July 5, 12; Aug. 9, 16, 30; Sept. 13, 20. The Cascade Bicycle Club will sell helmets in Seward Park for $15 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and offer professional helmet fittings on June 21 and 28, July 5, Aug. 9, 16 and 30. King County law requires all cyclists to wear helmets. Wearing a properly fitted helmet reduces the risk of severe head injury by 85 percent. Bicycle Sundays are sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation, Cascade Bicycle Club and Seattle Department of Transportation with the support of the Seattle Police Child safety seats can save lives, but they need to be used properly to be effective. Parents and caregivers can get sup- port in fitting their children securely in car seats at five free child car seat check-up events in upcoming months, begin- ning Friday, April 24, 2015. Public Health - Seattle & King County is hosting the events. Friday, May 8, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Renton Community Center located at 1715 SE Maple Valley Hwy, Renton Parents and caregivers will have their child safety seat checked by a certified child safety seat technician for safe installation and educational materials will be on hand. Soon-to-be parents and caregivers are welcome as well. These events are ones of many ongoing child safety seat check-up events in the Puget Sound area. King County residents, age 60 or older (age 55 or older if American Indian/Alaska Native) with incomes at or below 185 percent of Federal Poverty Level are eligible to apply. To qualify, an older adult living alone must earn a monthly income at or below $1,815. A household of two must earn less than $2,456 per month. Completed applications must be postmarked on or before May 15, 2015. Due to limited funding, qualified applicants will be selected through a random process. All applicants will receive mail notification of the status of their applica- tion on or before July 1, 2015.
