Just 12 resumes were sub- mitted for the position. Beck- Ester Neda West M rs. Ester Neda West was born on December 31st 1933 in Linden, Texas. She was the last of nine children born to the union of the late Lee McDowell and Mrs. Estella Crow McDowell. Four brothers and two sis- ters preceded her in death along with her husband. As a child, she united with the Sunrise Baptist Church where she worked faithfully. And as a young lady, she attended Bishop College in Marshall, Texas; before moving to Port- land, Ore. in 1955. Ester was employed by the State of Oregon for over 30 years in various roles such as switchboard operator, reception- ist, and foster care & family services agent. Among many of her passions were the Portland Trail Blazers, gardening, supporting both national and local Dem- ocratic causes, current events and shop- ping with her beloved friend Mrs. Katherine Jennings. Ester accepted Jesus Christ as her per- sonal savior while attending the Church of the Living God C.W.F.F. She held many positions such as president of the women’s work, financial secretary, and as a member of the trustee board and the choir; as well as other auxiliary offices. She wed into holy matri- mony with Joe A. West and two children were born Randy E. West and Daniel E. West. Ester was a sweet, loving, giving mother and grandmother who treasured spending time with her family. She leaves to cherish her sons, a host of nephews and nieces, grandchil- dren: Joseph West, Randy West Jr., Jalen West, Malia Thomas, Damon Thomas, Joseph West Jr., and JaNyah West. Viewing is Wednesday October 29, 2014, family only 3pm-4pm; public viewing 4pm-7pm at Terry’s family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday October 30, 2014 at 11am at Emanuel Temple Church.
