Seattle and NW Washington S P O Get Your Finances in Shape at Financial Resource Day I G H T S PHOTO BY SUSAN FRIED The Seattle Public Library will host a film screening and panel to kick off the 2014 National Film Festival for Tal- ented Youth from 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium. -Library programs are free and open to the public. Park- ing is available in the Central Library garage for $6 on weekends. -Selections from the best films of NFFTY 2013 will be shown and tickets to the 2014 festival will be given away. Young adult filmmakers Jesse Stipek, Joel McCarthy, Max Magerkurth and Ben Kadie will discuss the process of cre- ating and submitting films for NFFTY. -NFFTY is the flagship program of The Talented Youth, a Seattle non-profit arts organization founded in 2007. Come to Financial Resource Day on Saturday, March 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Ave. S in Seattle. Sponsored by the City of Seattle and the Financial Empowerment Network/Seattle-King County, Financial Resource Day is a one-day event that combines workshops, one-on-one counseling, and other financial services, offered by a wide array of professional partners. The Seattle Public Library Hosts National Film Festival for Talented Youth T Close to a thousand people showed up to show their support for a $15 minimum wage by marching from Judkins Park to Seattle Central Community College on Saturday, March 15, where former NAACP President james Bible spoke. City Councilor Kshama Sawant proposed that small businesses and non- profits be allowed to phase a $15 wage in over three years but large corporations should start paying now. Volunteers Needed For Arbor Day- Earth Day Projects Bellevue Parks & Community Services is looking for 400 volunteers to work on environmental improvement projects and help celebrate the important contribution of trees at the annual Arbor Day-Earth Day event on Saturday, May 3, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Preregistration is required by March 14. Registration is first-come, first served. Projects will fill up fast. Volunteers of all ages invited. Individuals and groups are welcome. Volunteers will plant trees, restore trails, remove invasive plants and otherwise help improve parks and open spaces. Following morning work projects, volunteers are asked to join in the Arbor Day Earth Day community celebration and participate in a community tree planting celebration, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at. Kelsey Creek Farm Park, 410-130th Pl. SE. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and complimentary lunch provided by Whole Foods Market.
