Black history month at
Legacy health
Watch the classic Oregon Public Broad-
casting documentary, “Local Color,” at
Legacy Health, Feb. 13, from 6:30 – 7:30
p.m.; and Feb. 18, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30
p.m. at Legacy Emanuel’s Lorenzen Con-

The documentary chronicles the history of
African American in Oregon, including the
fight for civil rights and equality by both
black and white citizens. It inspires and
encourages us all as we watch the commu-
nity unite and take a stand to bring about
important changes.
It’s a moving story of people, both black
and white, who worked for civil rights,
there are also moments of inspiration and
courage as people take a stand to bring
about important change for their communi-
ty.

Roosevelt high school students’ seminal Black history project focusing on
Portland’s own civil rights icons – our local ‘Freedom Riders’ — is on
display at the Oregon historical society’s free family day this weekend.
Nearly 100 Roosevelt freshmen interviewed local civil rights activists to
compile the professional exhibit, which tours the state then heads for our
nation’s capital. the project uses students as exhibit docents to explain
the historic record and engage viewers. Check them out as follows: Feb.

Presidents’ Day, Feb. 17, is also the final
day to view the Oregon Historical Society’s
popular presidential exhibit Windows on
America. To celebrate the exhibit’s final
weekend, the museum will be open until 7
p.m. from Friday through Monday.
See new artifacts added for the final
weeks, including a pair of Martha Washing-
ton’s earrings, Paul Revere’s pen, and a
signed copy of Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen
Points.

ules its annual Free Children’s Health Fair
to Saturday, Feb. 22, at Reynolds Middle
School from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., at 1200 NE

Fairview.
This important community outreach pro-
gram will provide a variety of health and
dental related services at no charge.
