Local News COMMUNITY NEWS BRIEFS OMSI Mummy Exhibit Continues The touring Mummies of the World exhi- bition, now on view at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry through September 8, has welcomed one-million overall visi- tors. Boasting the largest collection of real human and animal mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, the exhibition has drawn impressive crowds across the United States. OMSI admission is just $2 every first Sunday of the month. The Mummies of the World engagement at OMSI serves as its northwest debut and one of the last stops on its limited U.S. tour. Martin, PhD, Director of Ore- gon’s Addiction and Mental Health Divi- sion, speaks about Oregon’s public mental health system at the Oregon Health & Sci- ence University, on Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. A reception will be held prior to her talk at 6 p.m. Dr. Martin became the director of Ore- gon’s Addictions and Mental Health Divi- sion at the beginning of May, after spending 35 years in the mental health field in New Mexico. Registration is required at http://pamela- martin.eventbrite.com Cruz Walsh to Head Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation Free Solar Workshop and Tour at Portland Community College Rock Creek On Saturday, July 13 the nonprofit organ- ization Solar Oregon will host a Basics of Going Solar Workshop at the Portland Com- munity College Rock Creek Campus. This free workshop will be held at 1pm in Build- ing 7 Room 103. Following the workshop, we will be offering a tour of PCC Rock Creek’s ground mounted solar array. Approximately 35,000 square feet, it is the largest ground mounted solar array in the Portland Metro area. Constructed in 2012, this 500kW array provides electricity for Building 9, a 72,000 square foot structure that houses student and administrative serv- ices and the Rock Creek Campus library. This workshop will focus primarily on residential applications for solar energy including: How well solar works in Oregon’s cli- mate: Available solar technologies and how they fit into your overall energy use Assessing your site for solar: The finan- cial considerations of going solar How to access incentives and tax credits that can cover up to 75 percent of the cost: M U N I T Serena Cruz Walsh is the new executive director of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation. Cruz Walsh will oversee all foundation activities, including fundraising, community partnerships and support for the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center based in Hillsboro. The former Multnomah County commissioner and attorney more recently managed Albina Construction LLC, a construction and development company she founded with her husband. Cruz Walsh holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley, Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University and Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis & Clark College. The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center serves Washington and Yamhill counties with medical and dental clinics as well as school-based health services.
