Obituaries Alexandria Jessie Martin, 1991-2013 Willie Vera Frierson, 1925-2013 W illie Vera Frierson was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Coushatta, La., to the late Rev. Martin Frierson and Ella Frierson. She was the youngest of six children. In Louisiana she completed her elemen- tary education and then graduated from Springville High School. After graduating she came to Port- land, in June of 1943 for a visit and returned the follow- ing year to live and became employed at the shipyards. In 1947 she mar- ried Otis Smith and from this union two daughters were born, Brenda and Wanda. In 1959 she mar- ried Leonard Ran- son and from this union was twin sons Donald and Ronald, and one girl Angela. For a while she worked at a dry cleaner’s and learned all there is to know about that trade. Her expertise inspired her so much that from 1966—1987 she owned and operated her own cleaners called the “Woodlawn Dry Cleaners” in the Woodlawn Community. After closing her business she worked at the Cleaning Bar from 1988—2002 and The Urban League of Portland in 2004. Willie was a member of The Eastern Star Lodge, Rose Of Sharon, Oregon Associa- tion of Colored Women’s Clubs, National Council of Women. Board member of the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association, volunteer at the New Hope Food Bank and a Foster Grandparents for The Peninsula Children’s Center. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. A proud member who loved working in the church and being that dedicated servant. Her spiritual journey started as a mem- ber for 20 years at Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. O.B. Williams; 20 years at Mt. Sinai Community Church under the leadership of Rev. M.C. Cheeks and Rev. L. Ranson and then in 2003 she became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pas- tor Felton Howard and currently Rev. Charles Collins. She worked in the Mission Department, Youth Department, a Deaconess, Pastor’s Aid and on the Moth- er’s Board. You could always look forward to her making cookies for the Vacation Bible School. When she was sick and shut in her Pas- tor and church members came to her home to worship with her. In addition to all the things she had accomplished in life she was a proud member of a Bowling League. Preceding her in death are her parents; siblings: Manuel, Martin Jr., Erie, Myrtis and Ola Mae; one daughter: Angela. Our beloved Mrs. Willie Ranson is sur- vived by four children: Brenda, Wanda, Donald and Ronald; six grandchildren: Latrese, Angela, Antonn, Jaron, Adonis and Stella; three great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and host of nieces and nephews. Making others happy made her happy A lexandria Jessie Martin passed away on Monday May 20, 2013 in Lithia Springs, Georgia, from complications of Lupus. She was born on Saturday January 26th, 1991 to Dayle Martin and Joseph Almond Jr in Port- land, Oregon. Alexandria grew up in Portland. Alexandria was lov- ingly known as Allie, Alex, A.J. She attended Hum- boldt Elementary from Pre-K to 5th grade, Harriet Tub- man Middle School, and gradu- ated from Jefferson High School in 2009. Alexandria was a cheerleader and served as the varsity captain for three years at Jef- ferson. Alex was a part of the S.E.I family since second grade. She participated in several pro- grams, including T.A.G and Minds Matter. She continued her education at St. Johns University for two years, majoring in Criminal Justice. Alex moved to Dothan, Ala., in December 2011 to live with her brother and two sisters. In Dothan, she attended Wallace Community College. She and her sister Le’Anne ventured to Lithia Springs where she worked at Red Lobster as a hostess and waitress. Humor and making jokes were second nature to Allie, along with her smart com- ments. We could always depend on her to speak her mind. Like her mom, Allie loved music; singing and dancing. Cooking, drawing, fashion design and traveling were just some of her hobbies. Ambitious, adventurous, and intuitive would describe her to a “T”. A.J was our DIVA! Making others happy made her happy. A.J had a very close bond with her nieces, whom she talked about with much pride daily. She taught them both how to play the piano. She also had an unbreak- able bond with her two best friends from elementary school, Kia and Brittnie. For 18 years these three musketeers did everything togeth- er. Alexandria is survived by her Father Joseph Almond Jr. Grandparents Norma & Jesse Godfrey. Brother Joseph Almond III, Sisters Tanisha Martin, Le’Anne Almond, Lydia Almond, and Monterae Hill, Aunts and Uncles Cheryl & Johnnie Brookins, Myia & Jerry Stark, Fred & Rose Almond, Nieces Dayle Parker and Ariana Longmire.
