During this time, Ethos did in fact fulfill its contract with the city concerning the IFCC, did create community panels, and did select other art organizations to use the building. The Skan- ner regrets the errors. C O M M Sara Newton and Flying Focus member PC Peri, and edited by Flying Focus member Barb Greene. Suicide Epidemic Vision Action Network Announces Aging Summit with Washington County Leaders On Friday, Sept. 21 the Vision Action Network holds a summit on “Preparing for the Aging Boom in Wash- ington County: Moving into Action.” The event aims to address the challenges that are emerging from the current and upcoming increase in older adults in Washington County. Washington Coun- ty seniors, young adults, and agencies and businesses serving the needs of seniors are encouraged to partici- pate in the Summit that will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In 2006, almost 68,000 of Washington County’s res- idents (13% of the population) were 60 or older. With the aging of the baby boomers, who began turning 60 in 2006, that number is expected to increase 75% in the next 15 years to over 117,000 people. After the Summit the VAN Board will select an ini- tiative or initiatives to pursue to address the challenges raised at the Summit. U N I T Y C A City leaders voted Wednesday to place suicide prevention signs up around Portland’s bridges to help slow an epidemic suicide rate—which has doubled in the past decade to 1,200 crisis calls per year.
